Robin Brant has announced that he will be leaving the BBC in a shock move. He has been a staple at the broadcaster for the last two decades in various correspondent roles and covered the pandemic.
The broadcaster revealed his exit in a social media post. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he told his 18,000 followers that he had the “best job”. He penned: “NEWS ABOUT ME: I’m moving on from @BBCNews. This weekend will be my last, after 20+ years on the staff,” before looking back at where he first started which was at Radio 1.
“@BBCR1, then to Westminster, then the best job – foreign correspondent. Thanks to everyone along the way. I’ll miss the camaraderie. Onwards…,” he added. Robin’s colleagues rushed to the comments section to wish him well.
Health correspondent Catherine Burns wrote: “If this was a leaving do, I would have to wheel out my story about the New Year’s Eve shift handover that never was… You’re a star. Good luck in whatever comes next.”
While newsreader Martine Croxall leapt to the comments section and said: “Nooo! Not you as well. You’re the best.”
“I loved the banter with you in the Newsroom in NBH at the weekends Robin. Best of luck,” added a third.
A fourth chimed in and wrote: “It was great working with you Robin when you were in Shanghai! Best of luck with the next adventure.”
The news comes after BBC News welcomed back some familiar faces last week.
Annita McVeigh returned to our TV screens on Monday (March 18) after a year-long absence, which left fans delighted.
Last year, Annita and four other presenters were pulled off the air as part of a restructuring plan by BBC bosses. It was decided by executives at the time that they would consolidate their news channels.
However, the news anchor delighted viewers making a comeback to the BBC after it was announced last month she had been promoted to chief presenter.
Sharing the excitement about her return, Annita took to social media to share a glimpse of her first day back in the studio on Instagram.
