Trump says ‘it was my decision’ to attempt to overturn the 2020 election and insists he wasn’t acting based on lawyer advice

Donald Trump says it was his call to take actions to try and reverse the 2020 presidential election results in a bombshell new claim where the ex-President takes ownership for his actions.

The stunning new admission reveals that Trump was not acting on the advice of lawyers, which could impact the multiple lawsuits against him involving his efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory.

Trump offered some of his most extensive reactions to what happened on and after January 6, 2021 during an interview with NBC News where he told new Meet the Press host Kristen Welker that he was the one driving the efforts to reverse his reelection loss.

‘We have many people, and it’s my choice,’ Trump said in the pre-recorded interview that aired Sunday morning.

He later added: ‘It was my decision. But I listened to some people.’

In fact, Trump said that there were administration officials and campaign lawyers telling him he lost the election and to accept that, but he ignored their input, saying he ‘didn’t respect them.’

When Welker reminded the ex-President that he hired some of these people for their advice, he said he didn’t know they were ‘Republicans in Name Only’ when he brought them on.

‘They turn out to be RINOs, or they turn out to be not so good, in many cases, I didn’t respect them,’ he said. ‘But I did respect others. I respected many others that said the election was rigged.’

RINO has become one of Trump’s biggest attacks for his Republican critics. He says those he hired who turned out to be RINOs are turncoats.

Trump is running to retake his spot in the Oval Office after failing to win a consecutive second term when he lost to Biden in 2020. The ex-President is polling far beyond the rest of the GOP presidential field.

Welker pressed at one point: ‘Are you acknowledging you didn’t win?’

‘I’m not acknowledging,’ Trump said. ‘No. I say I won the election.’

Trump is facing a series of legal battles and has been indicted four times this year. Two cases involve his attempts to overturn the 2020 election while a third is related to his retention of classified documents after leaving the White House.

In his NBC interview, Trump took responsibility for the decision to try to overturn the 2020 results.

But he said his legal woes don’t have him concerned with actually ending up behind bars.

‘I don’t even think about it,’ the four-times indicted ex-President said when Welker asked if he is kept up at night with thoughts of going to prison.

‘I’m built a little differently I guess, because I have had people come up to me and say, ‘How do you do it, sir? How do you do it?’ I don’t even think about it,’ he said.

‘When you say, do I lose sleep? I sleep,’ Trump said later in the interview, ‘I sleep. Because I truly feel that, in the end, we’re going to win.’
