Former NRL player and Gold Coast Titans specialist coach Michael Gordon is among seven people arrested over an alleged cross-border MDMA and cocaine syndicate.

Gordon has since been stood down from the club following police raids in New South Wales and Queensland on Saturday. 

Detectives had been investigating the alleged distribution of illicit drugs between the two states since May.

They raided Casuarina and Terranora homes, in northern New South Wales, and searched Robina, Burleigh Waters and Miami homes, in Queensland.

Police raided several homes in New South Wales and Queensland on Saturday

Gordon was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was granted strict conditional bail and will front Tweed Heads Local Court on December 14.

Gold Coast Titans said in a statement Gordon had been relieved of his duties with the club. 

‘The Gold Coast Titans have been made aware that Michael Gordon has been charged by police,’ the club said in a statement.

‘Michael has been working on a contract basis, providing specialist coaching services to the club over the past season. He will not be providing services to the club until further notice.’  

A 20-year-old man was also charged with supplying prohibited drugs and possessing a prohibited drug.

Tweed and Byron Police District Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Brendon Cullen said the arrests came ahead of schoolies.

‘Byron Bay is one of the busiest places on the east coast of Australia right now, with thousands of schoolies expected to fill coastal towns during the coming weeks,’ detective Cullen said.

‘These drugs were (allegedly) bound for our streets, and these arrests will have significantly disrupted the supply chain into the schoolies areas. 

A 20-year-old woman has also been charged with participating in a criminal group contributing to a criminal activity and taking part in supplying a prohibited drug.

A 21-year-old man was charged with participating in a criminal group contributing to a criminal activity and taking part in supplying a prohibited drug. 

A 21-year-old and 31-year-old were arrested in Queensland and will be extradited to New South Wales. 

‘Police will allege in court this syndicate was operating across the border, and we are extremely pleased to be able to put these people before the courts,’ detective Cullen said.
