First Lady Jill Biden slams special counsel for saying Biden couldn’t remember year of son Beau’s death and implies he was ‘point-scoring’… even though Biden has gotten the details wrong in public

Jill Biden has come out fighting following the scathing special prosecutor’s report on her husband’s memory, saying claims Joe forgot their son Beau’s death were intended ‘to score political points.’

‘Believe me, like anyone who has lost a child, Beau and his death never leave him,’ the First Lady said in a statement shared by a campaign X account

The statement came in response to special prosecutor Robert K. Hur’s conclusion that Biden should not be charged for mishandling classified documents, but only because a jury wouldn’t convict him because he would appear as ‘a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’

But the argument that President Biden couldn’t forget his son’s tragic death defies public gaffes he has made on the topic in the past.

This included a rally from June 2023, when Biden claimed he and Jill ‘lost our son in Iraq’ – despite Beau passing away in Maryland in 2015 from brain cancer.

Beau served in Iraq and may well have caught the disease from exposure to ‘burn pits’ where toxic military material is incinerated.

But critics of the Bidens are likely to accuse Jill of hypocrisy for choosing to zero in on specifics when her husband has previously paid lip-service to them himself.

In her statement shared Saturday evening, the First Lady began: ‘Friends, I’ve heard from so many of you asking about the Special Counsel’s report this week. Thank you for your love and support.’

She said that viewers ‘probably know the basics’ of the case, that the president ‘cooperated fully with a Special Counsel’s investigation and they found he did nothing wrong.’

‘No criminal charges were warranted,’ she said, linking to an opinion piece by historian Heather Cox Richardson that claimed the prosecutor report ‘amounted to a partisan hit job.’

But Jill said the conclusion was not what she was releasing the statement about – what she branded ‘inaccurate and personal political attacks about Joe.’

‘Rather than just saying the case was closed, as they have for others, the Special Counsel claimed that Joe ‘couldn’t remember the year his son died’.

‘Believe me, like anyone who has lost a child, Beau and his death never leave him.

‘I hope you can imagine how it felt to read that attack – not just as Joe’s wife, but as Beau’s mother.’

She continued: ‘I don’t know what this Special Counsel was trying to achieve. We should give everyone grace, and I can’t imagine someone would try to use our son’s death to score political points.

‘If you’ve experienced a loss like that, you know that you don’t measure it in years – you measure it in grief.

‘May 30 is a day forever etched in our hearts. It shattered me, it shattered our family.’

The statement’s countering of the scathing prosecutor’s report comes less than a year after Biden publicly misspoke over how Beau died.

At a rally in Rocky Mountain, North Carolina in June 2023, Biden incorrectly claimed he ran for president while serving as Barack Obama’s Vice President, before asserting Beau died while serving in Iraq.

Speaking on reports he hadn’t planned to run for president again, Biden told the crowd: ‘You know, the bottom line is this – I ran for president – I ran for president for a basic reason.

‘I had run when I was vice president, and then Barack and I spent eight years together, and then the new administration came in, and, in the meantime, things changed in our life and our family.

‘I lost my son – we lost our son in Iraq. Anyway – I hadn’t planned on running.’

Biden had previously made similar claims that his son died while serving in Iraq.

It is true that Beau had served in Iraq, and was deployed and rose to the rank of major in the Delaware Army National Guard from 2008 to 2009.

He returned before launching his own political career, serving as Delaware Attorney General and planning a run for Governor of Delaware before he passed away from brain cancer in 2015.

President Biden has maintained there is a strong possibility Beau’s brain cancer was caused by exposure to burn pits while in Iraq.

Jill Biden concluded her statement by noting that she and President Biden only made it through the tough time of their son’s death by finding purpose.

‘So many of you know that feeling after you lose a loved one, where you feel like you can’t get off the floor.

‘What helped me, and what helped Joe, was to find purpose. That’s what keeps Joe going, serving you and the country we love.’

She then addressed his age, countering that experience should be perceived as one of President Biden’s strongest assets.

‘Joe is 81, that’s true, but he’s 81 doing more in an hour than most people do in a day. Joe has wisdom, empathy, and vision.

‘He has delivered on so many of his promises as President precisely because he’s learned a lot in those 81 years.

‘His age, with his experience and expertise, is an incredible asset and he proves it every day.’

The First Lady rattled off several of these accomplishments, including ‘bringing our country back from COVID’, ‘creating 14 million jobs’, and passing bipartisan legislation ‘even in the midst of this hyper-partisan environment.’

‘The media may not give him credit, but I’m thankful you realize all he’s done for this country.

‘Joe is the most resilient person I’ve ever known. When he gets knocked down, he gets back up and gets back to work. That’s what he’s doing.’

After thanking Democratic supporters for their support, she concluded: ‘At some point in our lives, we’ll all experience grief and loss. We’ll go through challenging moments and twists and turns.

‘But we find joy together, we persevere together, and ultimately we’ll prevail together.’

Beau’s biological mother was Neilia Hunter, who was killed in a car crash alongside her one year-old daughter Naomi in December 1972.

Beau and his younger brother Hunter – both toddlers at the time – were also in the car when it was struck by a semi and were injured too.

Joe met Jill on a blind date in 1975 and the couple wed two years later.

The couple welcomed a daughter, Ashley Biden, in 1981.
