Three teenage girls who witnessed the crash tried desperately to save Ms Waaka.

‘I was pumping [her chest] trying to get her to breathe,’ she told 9News.

‘I kept going until the police got there and they took over for a bit and that’s when they just realised that she was dead.

‘I didn’t even want to look at her once I saw her because it shocked me.’

Another witness described the aftermath of the horrific crash.

‘There was a baby seat in the back of the car,’ she said. ‘Pretty much all the airbags were out.

‘The car was just gone so you can only imagine what happened to the girl from there.’

Emergency services were unable to revive Ms Waaka, who died at the scene.
