Billy Sharp scores first goal for LA Galaxy in 2-2 draw with St Louis City

New signing Billy Sharp rescued a point for LA Galaxy in the last minutes of normal time in their 2-2 draw with St Louis City, scoring his first goal for the five-time MLS Cup champions.

It seemed as if the Galaxy’s three game unbeaten run was about to snapped by the newest club in the league, but Sheffield United legend Billy Sharp stepped up to the plate and fired home from close range to bring the game to level playing terms late on.

While LA only took a point away from the game, it could be a huge point at the end of October as they’re only four points away from a playoff spot in the Western Conference table with eight games remaining in the regular season.

It didn’t take the 37-year-old long to get off the mark in Los Angeles as he scored in his third appearance for the club. Galaxy head coach and sporting director Greg Vanney will hope that Sharp can do more of the same as the regular season comes to a close in the next several weeks.

Things have started to look better for the Galaxy in recent weeks as they’ve won twice and drawn twice to give themselves a shot at making the postseason later this fall. LA are currently in 13th place in the Western Conference with 30 points and will gear up to take on city rivals LAFC at BMO Stadium on September 16.
