Carlo Ancelotti reaches new Real Madrid milestone in Supercopa semi-final victory

Carlo Ancelotti moved into second place on the list of managers with most games in charge of Real Madrid in Wednesday’s Supercopa de Espana semi-final victory over Atletico Madrid.

The Italian, currently enjoying his second spell in charge of the club, watched Madrid battle to a 5-3 victory over Atletico to set up a final against either Barcelona or Osasuna, who face off on Thursday evening.

It was Ancelotti’s 263rd game in charge of Madrid, moving the 64-year-old level with Zinedine Zidane on the all-time charts.

The final will see Ancelotti claim second place for his own but it will take something miraculous for him to catch the existing record holder. Miguel Munoz led Madrid between 1959 and 1974, racking up a ludicrous 605 games in charge of the Spanish giants.

Munoz also holds the record for most wins in charge of Madrid, having led his side to a whopping 357 victories.

Ancelotti oversaw 61 games across the entirety of last season and would need over five full campaigns with a similar number of matches just to tie Munoz’s record. His current contract runs until 2026.

The iconic boss has claimed he plans to retire once his spell with Madrid eventually comes to an end, although he did hold talks with Brazil about taking charge at the end of the current campaign, when his previous contract was due to expire.
