Although the Duggar family‘s reality TV shows have long been canceled, would-be viewers are still finding new angles in old footage, including some that many thought was more or less lost to time.

Redditors uncovered an old clip promoting the canceled season of 19 Kids and Counting, which revealed a few facts about the Duggar family and spurred questions and speculation over just what has changed since the Duggars’ show started. Here, we’ll cover what the canceled season may have covered, including two failed courtships and some issues between Josiah and Jim Bob.

Season 11 Of 19 Kids And Counting Would Have Shown Anna’s Fourth Pregnancy

In the preview clip promoting season 11 of 19 Kids and Counting, Michelle Duggar stated she was thrilled to have four grandkids and one on the way. While she didn’t elaborate on who was pregnant, the clip also featured Anna Duggar talking about her three children with one on the way.

The clip did feature Jill and Derick Dillard cradling their then-newborn Israel, as well as Jessa and Ben chatting about sharing big news with the family. Given that their first son, Spurgeon, was born in November 2015, and Israel was born in April 2015, it may have been baby news that the Seewalds were sharing, if the preview was filmed around April or May. Josh and Anna’s fourth child, Meredith, was born in July 2015, right between her cousins.

Fans Saw A New Side Of Jill Dillard During A New Duggar Family Podcast Appearance, And They Didn’t Like It

Jill Duggar Dillard has plenty of fans, but just as many critics had some pointed feedback after a tell-all podcast interview.

While Spurgeon’s (and later his little brother Henry’s) birth was featured on the Duggar spinoff Counting On, not all of the grandkids’ births were featured on reality TV. Josh and Anna’s kids, for example, were not broadcasted upon birth, and neither were Jill and Joy-Anna’s kids born while the show was still running.

When it comes to Josh and Anna’s family, it’s understandable that the two did not appear much in the family’s footage — and Josh didn’t appear in the preview for the new season. He is clearly present for a photo shoot at the beginning of the clip, and Anna provides commentary, but Josh was cropped from the scene.

Apart from births of some of the Duggars’ grandkids (the total count was 32 grandkids as of December 2023), there were other life events that may have been broadcast during the canceled season of 19 Kids and Counting that fans missed out on.

The Canceled Season Of 19 Kids And Counting May Have Covered Two Failed Courtships

Viewers expected to see Josiah and Joseph court women other than their current wives

During the preview for 19 Kids and Counting‘s canceled season, Josiah Duggar was shown discussing his courtship with Marjorie Jackson with his dad Jim Bob. As fans now know, Josiah later married Lauren Swanson and the two welcomed three children between November 2019 and May 2023 (though the third child’s name and date of birth was not publicized).

However, Josiah had a courtship with Marjorie prior to meeting Lauren, and since multiple courtships aren’t often discussed amid the Duggars’ seemingly laser-focused path to marriage, viewers were disappointed that Josiah and Marjorie’s courtship (and its demise) wasn’t broadcast.

Another possible courtship that never aired may have involved Joseph Duggar, who was preparing for college in the sneak peek of season 11. Joseph married Kendra Caldwell during Counting On in 2017, and the two welcomed four kids together between 2018 and 2022.

Insiders Think Josh And Anna Duggar Might Be Separating After All (And Keeping It Quiet)

An “insider” report suggests that Anna Duggar has taken steps to separate from Josh Duggar despite no concrete evidence of a split.

Yet there were rumors of Joseph courting someone entirely different when he went away to college. Redditors commenting on the uncovered revived the rumor that Joseph Duggar met someone else while at college (some of the Duggars have reportedly attended a Biblical degree program at Crown College).

Despite the Duggars not typically endorsing college for their kids, Michelle and Jim Bob said in the clip from 19 Kids and Counting that they were excited for Joseph’s journey, with Michelle saying, “I said I wasn’t going to cry!” Jim Bob also pointed out that Joseph was the first of their kids to go to college.

But this is where the Redditors’ rumor comes into play: many followers of the Duggars believe that Joseph connected with Carlin Bates while at Crown College. He apparently stayed with the Bates during his only semester there, and around that time, Carlin said she had a ‘special friend’ that she was interested in.

There was never any confirmation, but those hints were enough to convince many viewers that the lost season of 19 Kids would have featured a Joe and Carlin romance.

It’s worth noting that Carlin Bates and Joy-Anna Forsyth are still BFFs, so even if Joe did have a failed courtship with Carlin, that clearly didn’t ruin a friendship, although the Duggars and Bates don’t seem to be as close, overall, today.

Viewers Also Suspect Problems In Josiah And Jim Bob’s Relationship

Josiah’s behavior had fans worried for him

In the clip where Josiah chats with Jim Bob about Marjorie, Redditors suspected that Josiah was uncomfortable and possibly feeling frightened. Many assumed it was because he had to repeat his ‘lines’ for a second or subsequent take of the conversation, while others think that Josiah’s childhood was far worse than it apeared on 19 Kids and Counting.

Fans accused the Duggars of sending Josiah away to retreats to get “all the personality beat out of him,” while another source speculated that Josiah was married off to Lauren as punishment for using social media in secret (perhaps similar to the way fans speculate Anna was hand-picked for Josh due to his issues).

How Many Of The Duggars Have Moved Far Away From Home (And Why)?

Did any of the Duggar family’s kids take the first opportunity to move away from their home in Arkansas? Not necessarily.

Awkward Counting On footage of Lauren and Josiah failing at a marriage retreat was further fodder for critics, but of course, the two appear to have a happy marriage today, at least outside looking in. As for Josiah’s relationship with Jim Bob and Michelle today, he still lives near his parents in Arkansas and may even own land nearby.
