Previously announced exposure sites upgraded from casual to close contacts

Previously announced venues in Sydney have had their status upgraded by NSW Health tonight.

Patrons of Coles Kareela and KFC Rockdale were originally dubbed casual contacts but are now being reclassified as close contacts of a confirmed case.

As a result, anyone who attended the two venues at the times listed is required to get tested immediately and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result.

People are also advised to call 1800 943 553 unless they have already been contacted by NSW Health for these venues:

A new list of close contacts exposure sites has also been issued tonight, along with a raft of casual contact spots. This includes Coles supermarket in Roselands Shopping Centre, which has four different dates and times attached to it.

Anyone who attended the following venues at the times listed is a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result, and call 1800 943 553 unless they have already been contacted by NSW Health:

Shopping centre added to exposure sites list

Earlier in the evening a Barbeques Galore, Chemist Warehouse and McDonald’s stores were among the places added to the growing list of exposure sites across Sydney.

The updated list comes hours after a major shopping centre in the heart of the city was listed as an exposure site, with the confirmed case visiting a number of retailers across two hours.

NSW Health tonight notified the public of a number of new venues of concern, which have been visited by confirmed cases of COVID‑19.

It comes after a confirmed case of COVID-19 has visited several stores at a popular Sydney shopping centre.

The infected person visited Kmart, JB Hi Fi, Coles, ALDI, Harvey Norman and Liquorland at Broadway Shopping Centre on Thursday, July 8 from about 12.00pm to 2pm.

The shopping centre sent an email to alert customers this afternoon.

“We have been advised that the centre as a whole will shortly be listed as a contact location on the NSW Health website with anyone who was in any part of the centre asked to monitor for symptoms,” the email said.

“If they occur get tested immediately and self-isolate until you receive a negative result.

“NSW Health is currently risk assessing all stores visited by the customer with health advice to be listed on the NSW Health website here in due course.

“NSW Health has advised that the customer was diligent in wearing a mask and checking in at all locations.

“The centre undergoes a full deep clean each night as part of our regular cleaning regime introduced at the onset of the pandemic… and will undertake additional measures following the confirmation of a contact.

Overnight alert

Authorities also issued a late night alert for exposure sites in Strathfield, Merrylands and Bankstown on Friday.

A bakery, lighting store and bus route are among the latest spots added to the list for close contacts.

While shoppers at a raft of supermarkets, including three Aldi stores across the city, are now labelled as casual contacts.

Meanwhile, anyone who visited Ashfield Mall on Wednesday, July 7 between 1.15pm – 2.15pm has been advised to monitor for symptoms, get tested immediately if they appear and self-isolate until a negative result is received.

Virus detected in sewage

Fragments of COVID-19 have been detected in sewage at a Sydney region with no recently confirmed cases, sparking warnings to residents.

NSW Health said the fragments had been found in the Boronia Park catchment, which takes in Melrose Park, Carmellia, Northmead, Constitution Hill, North Parramatta, Telopea, Denistone, Denistone West, Dundas Valley, Dundas, Carlingford, Oatlands, North Rocks, Ermington, Parramatta, Baulkham Hills, Rydalmere, Winston Hills, Woolwish, Huntleys Point, Huntleys Cove, Henley, East Ryde, Meadowbank, Gladesville, Tennyson Point, Putney, Hunters Hill, Denistone East, Ryde, Eastwood and West Ryde.

In a statement, NSW Health said “this is the first detection at this site and NSW Health is not aware of recently diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in this area”.

People in these regions are urged to be especially vigilant for any potential symptoms and get tested if any manifest.

Coronavirus has also been detected in sewage at the Bateau Bay treatment plant, and the Port Kembla treatment plant.
