A 10-year-old schoolgirl has tragically died after ‘getting into difficulty’ in a swimming pool in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Emergency services raced to Get Active @ Northfield on Monday evening after the incident.
The girl was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she sadly later died.
Sport Aberdeen, which runs the leisure centre, has now closed the venue with all classes, swimming lessons and training sessions cancelled.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘Around 8pm on Monday, 12 February, 2024, we were made aware a young female had got into difficulty in a swimming pool in Aberdeen.

‘Emergency services attended, and a 10-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she later died.
‘Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death, which is not being treated as suspicious.’
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We received a call at 19:56 on Monday 12 February to attend an incident at Kettlehills Crescent, Aberdeen.
‘One ambulance and two special operation response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.
‘One patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.’

The leisure centre remains closed until further notice after the incident on Monday
One local resident told The Press and Journal that there has been a police presence overnight on Monday.
They said: ‘There were many different police cars and ambulances that came down here last night’.
A Sport Aberdeen spokesman said: ‘Sport Aberdeen is working closely with the relevant authorities following an incident at Northfield Swimming Pool on the evening of Monday, February 12.
‘Inquiries are ongoing and the venue remains closed until further notice.’
