A young fan of Taylor Swift, aged 16, died in a car crash while she was on her way to the singer’s concert with her sister and mum. The sad event happened in Australia, where the singer was touring on the latest leg of her Eras tour.

The girl, named Mieka Pokarier, was traveling in an SUV with her mum and little sister in Dubbo, in New South Wales, at about 6pm last Thursday, when they collided with a big truck.

Mieka and her sister Freya, who is only 10 years old, were both badly hurt and injured, and their mum Kim was hurt too. Pictures from the accident show big clouds of dark smoke as people tried to save those who were hurt.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, Mieka couldn’t be saved and she died. Her sister and mum needed treatment in the hospital as well.

TMZ reported that the driver of the truck also had to go to the hospital but he’s in stable condition now. Police are looking into what happened and no one has been arrested at this stage.

Her family is distraught. Mieka’s dad wrote on Facebook: “That’s my baby that died.”

The girls’ godmother, Karleigh Fox, told people that the sisters were really looking forward to going to Taylor Swift’s shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

She said: “This was supposed to be a road trip of a lifetime with them going to concerts in both Melbourne and Sydney.”

It comes after Taylor Swift fan Ana Clara Benevides Machado died because of the heat at Taylor’s concert in Rio de Janeiro last year.

Ana Clara was just 23 and studying psychology. She was healthy but suddenly her heart and lungs stopped working at the concert due to the temperatures, doctors said.

Taylor Swift posted on Instagram that she was “devastated” about Ana’s death. She wrote: “This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”

The show went on even though it was very hot, and Rio had its hottest day ever. More than 60,000 fans came, but they couldn’t bring their own water bottles inside.
