Man City ‘agree trial date’ with Premier League over 115 charges

Manchester City and the Premier League have set an initial trial date of late Autumn 2024 as they prepare to collide over the 115 allegations against the European champions.

After a lengthy investigation, the Premier League accused City of a long list of financial breaches dating all the way back to the 2009/10 season – charges which City have repeatedly denied and have vowed to contest.

The football world has been waiting for the next step of the legal process but, according to the Daily Mail, it won’t be until late 2024 before City and the Premier League head to court to debate the allegations.

A conclusion to the entire saga is not expected until towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign, at which point any appeal of the final verdict could prolong things further.

It is claimed that the investigation is currently at the stage of collecting witness statements, with plenty of work to do before the case arrives in court.

Many have questioned the speed of the Premier League’s case against City, considering Everton were punished for Financial Fair Play violations earlier this month after being charged in March 2023, one month after the allegations against City were made public.

Everton were handed a 10-point deduction for one breach of financial rules, and that verdict has led many to hypothesise about the extent of any punishment for City after 115 potential breaches.

City boss Pep Guardiola, who has insisted the two cases cannot be compared, recently vowed to remain with the Cityzens even if they were given such a points deduction and ended up in League One as a result.
