Kelly Clarkson admitted she never wanted to walk down the aisle despite saying “I do” to Brandon Blackstock.
“No. I never wanted to get married the first time,” she told People in an interview published Wednesday.
“[Brandon] had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person.”
The “Since You’ve Been Gone” songstress — who filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020 — furthered that she isn’t one to push for marriage after witnessing several broken relationships throughout her life.
“Because I’ve been through a couple divorces in my family, I just don’t like to put any weight on it. It can happen; it doesn’t have to happen,” she continued.
“For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”
Clarkson, 41, and Blackstock, 47, were married for nearly seven years before they called it quits.
The former couple’s breakup led to the Grammy winner reportedly receiving full custody of their daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7 — with Blackstock receiving the kids one weekend per month.
Brandon also shares daughter Savannah Blackstock, 21, and Seth Blackstock, 17, with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.
Meanwhile, Clarkson isn’t interested in finding her soul mate anytime soon.

“Dating sucks. It’s so awkward,” she said. “I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am.”
But if the “Because Of You” songstress has learned anything from her past relationships, it’s learning what she wants in a potential partner.
“I told a friend [that my future partner] would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me,” she added.
“It’s far more romantic to say, ‘I want you, but I don’t need anything.’ I’m really good right now, I’m having a good time.”
This isn’t the first time Clarkson has opened up about embracing the single life.
In fact, the “Stronger” hitmaker revealed in September that she didn’t have a boyfriend and was “not looking.”
“I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs — there’s a lot going on,” she said on Instagram Live. “And, you know, you think you’re going to spend the rest of your life with somebody, and you don’t. That’s hard to start over.”
She also joked that she’d be “single forever” during a segment of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in December 2021.
