Legendary actor Sir Michael Caine hailed his wife of 51 years, Shakira, as his secret to still being alive today. The Dark Knight star, who celebrates his 91st birthday today, shared his three tips for living a long life.

“Younger wives, no snacking and wear trainers at all times,” Michael told the Daily Mail in 2023. “And you have to be careful not to fall down.”

Michael married Shakira, 77, in 1973. She is 14 years his junior.

The iconic couple stepped out on Thursday night to celebrate Michael’s birthday at a swish Mayfair restaurant.

In pictures obtained by the aforementioned publication, the two-time Oscar winner could be seen exiting the Arlington restaurant using a red walker. He has had trouble with his mobility since falling and breaking his ankle in 2018.

He looked dapper in a navy jacket with black trousers, smart black shoes and his staple aviator glasses.

His wife Shakira looked as glamorous as ever in a navy blazer worn over a crisp white shirt. The beauty queen accessorised her outfit with a chic navy scarf and completed the look with burgundy lipstick and her dark hair styled straight.

The pair were joined for dinner by their pal David Walliams. Michael and the ex-Britain’s Got Talent judge have been friends since they worked together on the 2021 film, Twist.

Earlier in the day, Michael took to X/Twitter to thank his 784,000 followers for their well-wishes on his birthday. He wrote: “Thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes.”

Hundreds replied to the Alfie star, including Chris who wrote: “Happy 91st Birthday, Sir Michael Caine! Your incredible talent has brought so many memorable moments to the screen, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema.”

Louise added: “Hope you and Lady Caine have a fantastic evening Sir Michael! We love you.”

Another user said: “Happy Birthday. Another day with you on this planet is always a wonderful day.”

And Diane quipped: “Happy birthday! Don’t forget to blow the bl**dy candles,” referencing Michael’s iconic quote as Charlie Croker in The Italian Job (1969).

Michael retired from acting in October 2023 following the release of his film The Great Escaper.

He said on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme at the time: “I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now.

“I’ve figured, I’ve had a picture where I’ve played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews. The only parts I’m likely to get now are old men. And I thought, well I might as well leave with all this – what have I got to do to beat this?”
