Men’s Olympic soccer semifinals: Complete schedule for all the knockout round matches

We’re into the semifinals of the men’s Olympic soccer tournament.

Brazil is looking to make it two gold medals in a row as it heads into the semifinals, following a win over Egypt in the quarterfinals. It will meet a strong Mexico team in the next round after El Tri easily dispatched of South Korea 6-3.

The other side of the bracket sees pre-tournament favorite Spain, with several players from the senior squad that advanced to the Euro semifinals, emerge as a strong candidate for the gold-medal match after ousting Ivory Coast. In the semis it will face host Japan, which needed a penalty-kick shootout to get past New Zealand in the quarters.

Beginning with the quarterfinals, if matches end in a tie after the 90 minutes of regulation, there will be 30 minutes of extra time that are played (two 15-minute periods). And if the deadlock is not resolved in extra time, a penalty-kick shootout will be used to determine the winner. The last gold medal match in 2016 between Brazil and Germany was decided by penalty kicks.
