Oliver Hudson details childhood ‘trauma’ he faced from being in mom Goldie Hawn’s care

Oliver Hudson revealed that he completed a celebrity-beloved Hoffman Process course to understand his childhood “trauma” — and learn how his mother, Goldie Hawn, played a role.

“My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough, because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time, so I felt unprotected at times,” said Oliver, who is the son of Hawn and her second husband, Bill Hudson,” on his “Sibling Revelry” podcast.

Although the “Scream Queens” actor described the “First Wives Club” star as an “amazing mother,” Oliver struggled with her busy work schedule and choices made in her personal life.

“She would be working. She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like,” he explained, emphasizing that his mom was simply “living her life.”

“This is my own perception as a child who didn’t have a dad and needed her to be there,” he clarified, “and she just wasn’t [there] sometimes and she came out far more than even my dad who wasn’t there.”

Hawn, 78, mainly raised Oliver and her daughter, Kate, following her divorce from Bill. She went on to meet Kurt Russell in 1983, and the couple has been together ever since.

The Oscar-winning actress and Russell went on to welcome son Wyatt.

Oliver, 47, said the Hoffman Process helped him reach a place of better understanding for his parents.

“The forgiveness and the compassion that you feel towards them at the end of this process is unbelievable because then you realize that they’re only repeating the ship that they went through, you know, with their parents,” he explained.

“The forgiveness of my father was huge because his dad left him when he was five years old in the middle of the night, gone,” he continued.

“You know, my dad didn’t do exactly that, but essentially he bailed, you know, so I can’t always help but think when we’re parenting, like what am I imprinting upon [my kids].” theoliverhudson/Instagram

Oliver married Erinn Bartlett in 2006 and share three kids: sons Wilder, 16, Bodhi, 13, and daughter Rio, 10.

In 2018, Oliver shared that he and his father had been texting.

“Well, we’re trying right now,” Oliver said on “Larry King Now.” “We’ve shot some texts back and forth.”
