President Biden Calls For Gun Reform After Maine Mass Shooting

President Joe Biden has just spoken out regarding the Maine mass shooting that occurred last month.

We shouldn’t be worried if we “go to a bowling alley about getting shot and killed,” President Biden stated, referencing those whose lives were lost after the tragic massacre.

He is, once again, calling for gun reform, stating “We must protect our freedom.”

During his live press conference on Friday, the President of the United States said, “As we gather here today, we know your hearts are broken, but we also know your spirits are strong.”

“God bless those we lost, God bless the first responders,” he added.

This is not the first time President Joe Biden called for gun reform as just days after the Maine mass shootings occurred, he called on Republicans to “fulfill their obligation to keep the American people safe,” but “until that day comes, I will continue to do everything in my power to end this gun violence epidemic.”

He added, “The Lewiston community – and all Americans – deserve nothing less.”

Robert Card, the main suspect in the mass shootings that occurred in Lewiston, Maine, was committed to a mental hospital involuntarily just months before the tragic events.

It was previously reported that the 40-year-old army veteran stated he was hearing voices, and had allegedly threatened to shoot up the National Guard base in Saco. Reports also stated he was then committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this summer.

Following his time in the hospital, Card’s superiors were told that he should not handle any weapons or participate in live-fire activities.

However, Mr. Card was still able to legally purchase firearms just days before the Maine mass shootings occurred.

Mr. Card was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound 48 hours after the devastating events took place in Lewiston, Maine.

President Joe Biden spoke out after the discovery of Mr. Card’s body, stating that it “has been a tragic two days – not just for Lewiston, Maine, but for our entire country”.

He added, “Once again, an American community and American families have been devastated by gun violence. In all, at least eighteen souls brutally slain, more injured, some critically, and scores of family and friends praying and experiencing trauma no one ever wants to imagine.”

The massive manhunt for Robert Card went on for 48 hours as police officers and law enforcement worked 24/7 to locate the 40-year-old after he killed 18 people and injured several others when he opened fire at a bowling alley and a local bar.

“Numerous brave law enforcement officers have worked around the clock to find this suspect and prevent the loss of more innocent lives – all while risking their own. They are the best of us,” the President added.

In regard to law enforcement finding Robert Card, Biden stated, “Tonight we’re grateful that Lewiston and surrounding communities are safe after spending excruciating days hiding in their homes. I thank Governor Janet Mills for her steady leadership during this time of crisis, and continue to direct my administration to provide everything that is needed to support the people of Maine.”
