Derek Hough is updating his fans about the status of his wife, Haley Erbert, who was rushed into emergency brain surgery earlier this week.

Taking to his Instagram on Friday, Hough explained that Erbert is “now on the long road of recovery” following the terrifying operation, which he referred to as “incredibly unfathomable” and “life changing.”

“Hayley has always inspired me with her will, her strength, and her resilience and no more so than in the last 48 hrs,” he marveled.

“Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us,” he went on, adding that the “kindness [they’ve] been shown” has been “immeasurable.”

“The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated,” the “Dancing with the Stars” pro-turned-judge concluded. “Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and someway pay it forward.”

Hough — who just wrapped “DWTS” Season 32 while he’s been on the couple’s Symphony of Dance tour — revealed Thursday morning that Erbert “became disoriented and was taken to the hospital” at the end of their Wednesday night show in Washington, D.C.

“She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy,” he told his followers.

According to the Mayo Clinic, an intracranial hematoma is a collection of blood within the brain tissue or underneath the skull, which then presses on the brain.

It’s usually caused by a blood vessel in the brain that bursts, typically as a result of some sort of head trauma.

Per the University of Rochester Medical Medical Center, a craniectomy is a neurosurgical procedure that involves removing a portion of the skull in order to relieve pressure on the brain.

Though Hough, 38, did not say whether Erbert, 29, had recently fallen or gotten hit, the pair did get into “a pretty scary car accident in the mountains” last December.

Following the crash, Erbert explained she and Hough were “both okay” and that she “only walked away a little banged up” with “a swollen face and four stitches above [her] eyebrow.”

She then shared photos of her injured face and said she was “blown away and grateful for [her] body’s ability to heal so quickly.”

“I’m manifesting that 2023 is a year of health and strength,” she added before writing off any more “injuries.”

Alongside his Thursday announcement, Hough made sure to note that his new spouse, whom he married in August, was “in stable condition.”
