Sir David Jason breaks silence on Only Fools and Horses return as fans go wild

Sir David Jason has addressed the prospect of an Only Fools and Horses comeback after fans went wild for new pictures of his iconic character Del Boy.

The beloved BBC show ran from 1981 to 1991, with Christmas specials up until 2003, and followed Derek Trotter and his brother Rodney in their business exploits.

Fans were thrilled to see Sir David dressed in character earlier this month, twenty years after the last episode of the iconic show at the Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society convention in Milton Keynes.

He has now addressed whether the show could come back, telling The Sun’s TV Mag: “Well, to be honest with you, we would like that to happen very much because not only did we enjoy it so much, but so did most of the British public. Because of that, we would love to do it.

“I don’t think we could do another episode of Only Fools And Horses because the brains behind it, Mr John Sullivan, is unfortunately no longer with us.”

Sullivan passed away in April 2011 from pneumonia at the age of 64, while Roger Lloyd Pack, who played Trigger, died in January 2014 and John Challis, aka Boyce, died in September 2021.

Nicholas Lyndhurst also has been busy, as he appeared in the reboot series of US series Frasier, starring alongside actor Kelsey Grammar.

But while fans may be left disappointed, Sir David is making a return to TV screens next week alongside The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades for a new series.

David And Jay’s Touring Toolshed will see the pair travel around the country as they meet crafters, makers and experts, as he said about the series: “We share the same sense of humour and we’re both open for mickey-taking. Because we can take it, we can give it.

“I’m always having a go at him for being a fool, and he’s always having a go at me because I snore.

“We get on famously. It’s that sort of camaraderie, that ability to say something to someone and know they’re not going to take offence; they’re going to try to think of something clever to come back with. That’s an unusual gift.”
