An explosive video featuring Celebrity Big Brother’s Louis Walsh “groping” an unamused Mel B on ITV in 2014 has resurfaced recently. The footage portrays the ex-Spice Girl glaring at him before branding him “inappropriate”.
In a move which will leave CBB fans gasping, he then shrugged it off as a “joke”. The former X Factor judge addressed his controversial behaviour, which was captured on camera a decade ago, in a 2018 interview for Irish radio station Today FM.
“We’d be sitting there all day on the couch doing TV, and I just grabbed her a**e as a joke,” he told host Mario Rosenstock after being quizzed over the episode. “She was very funny and you could say anything or do anything to her,” the ex-music manager continued.
“I loved her, so I would just grab her for a laugh but it’s not PC anymore.” He went on to add that society has changed in its attitude to such antics, stating: “Everybody is watching everybody [and] you can’t do anything on Twitter.
“You can’t say anything, you can’t say what you really feel because you’re going to offend somebody,” he concluded. Despite him dismissing the episode as merely a “laugh”, Mel didn’t look best pleased in the video footage.
First looking uncomfortable, she then called him out on his behaviour on-screen, which took place while Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole looked on.
“Hold on. Hold on a second. Why are you grabbing my butt?” she quizzed, before branding him “inappropriate”.
Mel, who was wearing a white skirt paired with a black bandage top featuring a cut-out section at the waist, then shifted her position on the sofa to create some distance between them.
A grinning Louis made no apology, dismissing her complaint with the words: “I’m looking after Mel.”
When the clip resurfaced on Twitter, one fan wrote disapprovingly: “Louis Walsh, most famous for groping Mel B. Well done ITV for keeping him on your payroll.”
Another chimed in: “That is disgusting, you can actually see he squeezed her bum. Totally unacceptable. #CBBUK #LouisWalsh.”
Some fans speculated that Louis was gay, but this has never been confirmed or denied, with the judge previously shutting down the conversation when he was quizzed on his sexuality.
The TV star, who has never been married and has not had a public relationship, told a journalist for The Times: “Don’t go there.”
Meanwhile, another viewer took to Twitter to exclaim: “No man whatever his sexuality should be feeling up a woman when she is clearly uncomfortable with it.”
Louis is the bookies’ favourite to be crowned the CBB winner when the final airs on ITV tomorrow at 9pm.
