Meghan Markle ‘unfurled confidently in the spotlight’ as film crew followed Sussexes’ trip to Canada – but Prince Harry ‘still looks like a slightly troubled camera performer’, claims body language expert

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent Valentine’s Day in Whistler, Canada, promoting the next Invictus Games while being followed by a film crew.

Former actress Meghan Markle, 42, appeared to be enjoying the spotlight, according to a body language expert.

But in contrast, her husband, Prince Harry, 39, looked ‘like a slightly troubled camera performer’, Judi James told FEMAIL.

The beaming couple walked hand-in-hand as they arrived at the picturesque ski resort of Whistler, in British Columbia, for a two-day trip from California to highlight next year’s event, the first time it will involve winter sports.

Harry tried out one of the competitors’ sit-skis and the pair were spotted bending down to talk to athletes competing at the games, all while being followed close behind by a camera crew.

Discussing the couple’s behaviour, Judi said: ‘The couple arrived with their body language announcement gestures signalling energy, positivity, enthusiasm and joy.

‘Their hand clasp registered togetherness, as did Meghan’s poses with her hand held up near her face to show her engagement ring was firmly back on her finger.

‘Meghan seemed to take a very active and at times dominant role here, walking ahead of Harry or striding slightly ahead when they walked together.

‘Harry’s own smile looked a little less self-assured than his wife’s, only really converting into a congruent smile of genuine happiness when he started to join in with the sporting action.

‘He still looks like a slightly troubled camera performer, walking with a dipped head and with one hand shoved into his jeans pocket while Meghan unfurled confidently in the spotlight.

‘This was overall a very carefree performance with Meghan proving yet again that she is part of the Invictus family and as fully immersed as her husband is now.’

The body language expert added that Meghan appeared to set herself up at times to ensure good angles for the film crew.

‘Even her wave goodbye at the end appears to be aimed directly at the camera, while some of her poses, like her squat while she looks at Harry sitting in his ski seat, seem to help with the framing when it comes to a good close-up of them both,’ said Judi.

Meghan made a dazzling appearance in the ski resort yesterday, thanks to the reappearance of her £140,000 engagement ring.

The Duchess has not been seen publicly wearing the glittering band, comprising one huge Botswana diamond and two from Princess Diana‘s collection, since May 2023.

Her ring was conspicuously absent at recent events, such as the premiere of Bob Marley biopic One Love in Kingston, Jamaica, last month, and her attendance at the Variety’s Power of Women gala in November 2023.

According to People magazine the reason behind the ring’s long hiatus is that a setting came loose and it needed to be serviced.

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2017, with the ring comprising of a solid yellow gold band set with three diamonds, but Meghan has made several tweaks to the design since.

As she appeared on the slopes with Prince Harry (plus their cameraman) and larked about on skis, the Duchess’s dazzling diamond complemented a chic winter outfit.

She donned a quilted cream coat from Calvin Klein costing $295, layered on top of a $695 cashmere jumper from CO.

Ensuring her feet were toasty in the freezing Whistler temperatures, the Duchess wore a pair of furry boots from Sorel – quirkily named the Joan of Arctic design.

Meghan’s updated bio on the site played up her credentials as a philanthropist but made only one mention of her acting past and none of the Royal family.

However, the Duchess’s stunning rock was the star of the outfit, and instead of covering up her hands with a pair of heavy-duty gloves, she proudly displayed the ring on her finger.

It is the first time mother-of-two Meghan has been spotted wearing the band for around nine months amid reports she was having it fixed.

The Duke and Duchess’ trip comes as they are currently embroiled in an ongoing row over their rebranded ‘royal’ website Sussex.com – complete with Meghan’s coat of arms – which critics claim is a breach of their promise to the late Queen when they acrimoniously quit front-line royal duties.

Sources now saying the couple did not consult palace officials about using their Sussex titles.

A source close to the couple defended the use of their royal titles, saying: ‘Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and family name.’

Yesterday, Meghan was forced to put out a statement defending the graphic design company that created the couple’s new website. Harry has also faced criticism over the short amount of time he spent in the UK following his father’s cancer diagnosis.

Harry and Meghan made their way out of the gondola on Whistler’s Blackcomb Mountain shortly after 2.30pm local time and were introduced to three groups of adaptive skiers: one Alpine sit-ski, one standing ski and one group of visually impaired athletes.

Alex Cairns, a sit-skier from Canada, was the first to meet the Sussexes and gave a demonstration of the sport – arriving at the base of the slope to cheers from Harry.

The Whistler games will be the first time that Invictus has featured winter sports.

The couple arrived in the country on Tuesday and were pictured by DailyMail.com touching down in Vancouver just after noon Pacific time following a two-hour flight from Santa Barbara – the closest airport to their home in Montecito.

Their arrival came on the same day that Meghan announced she had signed a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media after she and Harry parted ways with Spotify.

A convoy of cars collected the famous duo and whisked them away to Whistler where they are due to be on Wednesday and Thursday before they return to Vancouver for an event in the City of Glass on Friday.

The pair are then expected to travel home to California on Friday afternoon to be reunited with their children Archie, five, and Lilibet, two.
