Liverpool vs Leicester – Carabao Cup: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Liverpool will make their first Carabao Cup outing of the season on Wednesday when they welcome Leicester City to Anfield.

The fixture list hasn’t been kind to Liverpool, who are preparing for their fifth game in a month which also included an international break, and they still have another game against Tottenham Hotspur to come before they can tear the page off the calendar.

Before they can start thinking about pumpkin spice lattes and which fancy dress costume will generate more Instagram clicks, Jurgen Klopp’s side must do battle with Leicester. The Foxes ended last season in turmoil but have hit the reset button and are flying high at the top of the Championship.

Here’s all you need to know about this one.

Klopp has regularly, and correctly, reminded reporters of his side’s hectic schedule and so it would be a surprise if he did not make plenty of changes here and name a similar team to that which saw off LASK in the Europa League.

As for actual injury concerns, Liverpool remains without Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bajcetic, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, Elliott, Gravenberch; Doak, Gakpo, Jota

Callum Doyle is set for a scan on a knee injury but will definitely not be fit for this one, instead joining Dennis Praet and Tom Cannon on the sidelines.

There’ll be some rotation from Foxes boss Enzo Maresca, with the priority this season obviously being success in the Championship. But expect a strong team.

Leicester predicted lineup (4-3-3): Stolarczyk; Pereira, Faes, Vestergaard, Justin; Ndidi; Casadei, Winks; Akgun, Iheanacho, Mavididi

Liverpool won’t be at their strongest if Klopp makes the expected changes, but they should still come out on top against a Championship side – even one emerging as an early promotion favourite.

There’s real quality in Liverpool’s reserve group, with the likes of Ben Doak and Ryan Gravenberch hungry for a promotion into the starting lineup, while the heavy hitters will likely occupy the bench in case of an emergency.

Expect a fun game as Maresca’s Leicester have been a lot of fun to watch this year, but Liverpool should get the job done.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Leicester
