Yoko Ono is living off the map these days, in a community that has a population of 280 people. Ono and her husband, John Lennon, initially purchased the property in 1978. She was married to the legendary musician and Beatle in 1969. The couple fought against being deported from the U.S. at one point, and Lennon was spied on by the FBI.

Ono was by Lennon’s side when he was murdered by Mark David Chapman in 1980 in front of the Dakota building, where they lived.

Yoko Ono is living off the map these days. The singer/activist has moved to a 600-acre farm in upstate New York. Ono left New York City and her apartment in the Dakota building, her residence of 50 years, to move to a small community of around 280 people in Franklin, New York.

“Yoko (Ono) has decided to relocate to the rural property full-time – and is not thought to have any plans to return” to the Dakota building, according to the Daily Mail. Ono moved to the property, which she and husband John Lennon initially purchased for $178,000, during the Covid pandemic.

Ono is known for her work as an influential artist, performer and activist. Many are also familiar with Ono’s relationship with and marriage to activist, iconic musician and Beatle, John Lennon. Some have speculated that she was the reason behind Lennon’s decision to leave The Beatles. Another Beatle, Paul McCartney, has slammed Ono for hurting The Beatle’s career.

Yoko Ono’s current residence is also a community of 280 people. And although “she continues to own her apartment at the Dakota”, Elliot Mintz, who represents her, told the New York Times, she doesn’t appear to have any plans to leave the privacy of her new small community to return to the Big Apple.

Ono is currently living off the map and on the 600-acre farm she purchased with her husband, John Lennon, in 1978. The Nobody Sees Me Like You Do singer reportedly has no plans to return to her apartment at the Dakota in New York City. She also reportedly has no plans to sell the apartment she lived in with Lennon at the Dakota.

Yoko Ono and husband John Lennon purchased the property, located in a small community of 280 people, in 1978. The two are reported to have hoped to raise Holstein dairy cows on the land.

One inside source stated that Ono enjoys “a peaceful life,” away from the view of the public. On Ono’s new estate, “the main house has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and outside, Ono grows her own vegetables. Nearby are a farmers’ market and a pizza restaurant.” Philip Norman wrote in his book that “John Lennon bought a herd of 122 cows and 10 bulls for the farm at one point,” according to the New York Post.

Ono is reported to need medical care “round the clock,” and at an event in 2017, while giving a speech, said, “I have learned so much from having this illness, I’m grateful to have gone through it.” according to the Daily Mail. Any health issues Ono is dealing with have not been shared by Ono nor members of her family.

Although she has been dealing with unknown health issues, one source told the Daily Mail that Ono was “in really good spirits and looking great.”

Yoko Ono and John Lennon were married in 1969 and moved into the Dakota building in 1973. Throughout Lennon and Ono’s relationship, they also collaborated on records and protested together. While married, there was a love triangle that threatened Lennon and Ono’s relationship. However, it didn’t last, and Yoko Ono and the Imagine singer were married until Lennon’s untimely death.

Ono was widowed when Lennon was assassinated in front of her by Mark David Chapman, as the couple were walking back into their apartment building, the Dakota. The artist and singer never remarried, and continued living in their New York City apartment for decades.

Yoko Ono and John Lennon had initially moved to the building because “they wanted to move into a building that would afford them more privacy – and more security,” photographer Bob Gruen told the New York Times. Some of the building’s other residents didn’t appreciate it when the pair purchased several units for themselves, and it seems Ono took most of the blame.

One Dakota resident, Paul Goldberger, revealed, “There was a little bit of resentment built up against Yoko, because she kept trying to buy more apartments. I think people didn’t dare get mad at John Lennon, so she bore the brunt of any resentment.”

Ono continued living in their home at the Dakota building for decades, and created Lennon’s Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park, which is close to the building. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ono left the Dakota, relocating to the property she and Lennon had purchased together in 1978.

Ono now lives off the map, on her and Lennon’s expansive farm, and according to close friend Elliot Mintz, who attended Ono’s private 90th birthday celebration with her family, remarked that, “The room was filled with flowers, laughter, music, great food and loving exchanges.” Mintz told The New York Post in 2020, “She (Ono) is a particularly special being. In these 87 years, she’s lived 400.”
