Julia Roberts thinks being a mom tops being a Hollywood star.
The “Pretty Woman” actress raved about her relationship with husband Danny Moder and their three kids — 17-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 15-year-old Henry — in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
“When I’m not working, [being a homemaker] is my full-time job. It isn’t rainbows and kittens every day, but it does bring me a lot of joy,” Roberts, 54, said. “It’s just never consumed me, being an actor. It is my dream come true, but it is not my only dream come true.”
She continued, “The life that I have built with my husband, [and] the life that we’ve built with our children, that’s the best stuff. To come home at the end of the day, triumphantly, to them.”
Roberts, who has been married to Moder, 53, since 2002, also shared some insight into how she and her husband keep their love life alive.
“[Writing handwritten notes is] something Danny and I have always done,” she explained.
“The first letter he ever wrote me, which was seven pages long, I still have it tucked away. One day I’ll show it to Hazel and say, ‘That’s what you’re looking for.’”
In addition to advice on love, it seems Hazel also receives some fashion help from her famous mom at times.
“My daughter was digging through the closet looking for possible prom dresses last spring and was, like, ‘What’s this dress?’” Roberts shared, referring to the iconic black Valentino gown she wore to the 2001 Oscars where she won Best Actress for her role in “Erin Brockovich.”
“I said, ‘Well, try it on.’ It was too big for her, but she looked so lovely.”
During the interview, Roberts also reflected on the moment Hazel made her red carpet debut alongside Moder at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
“We were FaceTiming actually, right before they went out, and she was lying on the bed, and I said, ‘What time is it? What are you guys doing?’” Roberts recalled “She goes, ‘Oh, Dad’s, you know, just putting his tie on. We’re getting ready to go.’
“And I said, ‘Oh, are you ready?’ ‘Yeah.’ Like, she didn’t really look ready to me, you know, ponytail? And I was, like, ‘Hmm, little eyeliner?’ She was, like, ‘I didn’t bring eyeliner, Mom, what are you talking about?’ It’s like, ‘OK, yeah.’ I mean, what eyeliner? I mean, who needs eyeliner? Just Cannes!”
Roberts found it sweet how her daughter cared more about spending time with Moder at the event than about how she looked in public.
“I mean, it’s just sweet, just the innocence. She’s just with her dad. It’s not about anything else,” the actress said.
Roberts is of course no stranger to speaking highly of her husband of more than 20 years. She gushed over the cinematographer in a sweet birthday tribute in February, writing on Instagram at the time, “You make my world go round 🧡.”
They are also known for showing lots of PDA – like when they got cozy during an Italian getaway or shared a smooch on social media.
