Joanna Page has broken her silence over rumours of a future Gavin and Stacey episode. It was reported earlier this month that the BBC sitcom was rumoured to make a return for a Christmas special this year.

The mum-of-four, who plays the lead role of Stacey West in the show, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and waded in on the conversation surrounding speculation of a future return.

She said: “I haven’t got any new information or anything like it. Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] write the show. And so they’re the ones who know everything that’s going on. So yeah, I don’t have anything exciting to tell you.”

Gavin and Stacey ran for three seasons and a Christmas episode between 2007 and 2010 on the BBC, before returning in 2019 for a Christmas special which ended on a cliffhanger when Nessa (Ruth) proposed to Smithy (James).

Speaking about her iconic role, Joanna added: “I love playing Stacey. I mean, absolutely. I love the job. I love playing the character, and I don’t know, I’m quite happy, you know, to be well known for something like that, because I think it’s a huge achievement.

“Because when I was in drama school, I just thought, God, I just want to work. So to be known as just Stacey, I’m perfectly happy with that. And I’m happy then to carry on, you know, doing other presenting stuff.”

Joanna recently joined the ITV show Loose Women as a panellist this year. The Welsh actress first shot to fame when she appeared in the British rom-com Love Actually in 2003.

She then landed the role of Stacey in the sitcom Gavin and Stacey in 2007 which focuses on two families being brought together through the love story of Stacey West (Joanna) and Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne).

Ruth Jones, who plays the role of Nessa, spoke out after the rumours of a Christmas special circulated. However, she silenced any speculation that there was a future episode in the pipeline during her stint on RTE Radio 1 in Ireland.

She confirmed: “It’s lovely that people love it. It’s sadly a rumour… If there was something to say James and I would happily announce it.” Deadline had previously reported that a new episode of Gavin and Stacey would begin filming this summer.

Joanna has recently teamed up with EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy to launch a brand new podcast, Off The Telly. The podcast will look at the week’s telly offerings – from the best-avoided shows to the upcoming programmes that have everyone talking.

Off The Tell is available on BBC Sounds on 28th February.
