A Former Associate Of Josh Duggar’s Claims He Had Bad Intentions When Offering Her A Job

Highlights

  • Josh Duggar’s political career ended abruptly after his crimes were revealed in public.
  • Former associates revealed uncomfortable details of Josh’s behavior and intentions in his political role.
  • Despite his attempt to pivot his career, Josh lost his director job after his scandals were exposed.

Long before news of Josh Duggar’s wrongdoings colored reality TV fans’ views of the Duggar family, Josh had a brief career in politics that, at the time, seemed promising. But later, when Josh’s crimes were revealed and he faced a prison sentence, many former associates of the family came forward to tell what they felt was the real story.

One former friend of the Duggars revealed one of their biggest secrets, while another claimed that Michelle Duggar was scary behind the scenes. Even the Duggar family’s own books revealed shocking details of their lives.

Yet another story from someone who worked with Josh turned heads on Reddit, when it was revealed that while he worked in Washington D.C., Josh attempted a career pivot that may have revealed he didn’t have the best intentions.

Josh Duggar Worked In Washington D.C. Before He Was Accused Of Major Crimes

Josh’s highly charged job offer was widely covered in the media

In 2013, followers of the Duggar family were surprised to learn that Josh Duggar had landed a major job in Washington D.C. For the high school graduate (all the Duggars were homeschooled) with no college education, nabbing a director job in politics was a big move.

However, Josh’s role was with the Family Research Council (FRC) Action, which is a conservative Christian organization with apparent close ties to the Duggar family. Viewers of the family’s show might recall that Jim Bob, whose political career stalled even before Josh went to prison, had many connections thanks to his time on the political campaign trail.

Upon landing the role, Josh stated, “I’m very excited about joining FRC Action and working to promote the values that have always been close to my heart and my family. In this capacity, I will be engaging the grassroots and taking the message of faith, family and freedom all across America.”

Josh’s political activities weren’t covered broadly during the family’s reality TV series 19 Kids and Counting or the spinoff Counting On, but his now-defunct profile from Ecclesia College, where he served on the Board of Regents, states that Josh was able to “establish a political consulting firm” and served on Presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.

Ultimately, around 2015, Josh’s political career ended, and a few years later, he was in prison.

Josh’s Former Coworker Swears She Dodged A Bullet In Saying No To His Job Offer

When Josh Duggar rolled into D.C. to take his new job, not many of the people he worked with were happy about it, according to Redditors.

One post from a former associate of Josh Duggar’s outlined the way she “dodged a bullet” when working near him. On the same post, multiple people stated that Josh Duggar was absolutely not qualified for his director role, and that people he worked with felt it was a “slap in the face” for Duggar to nab a senior role with “no experience or education.”

Josh also reportedly claimed to have a “list of high-dollar donors” that no one ever saw, though people speculated that Josh’s part in FRC was more about publicity than him doing actual work or bringing in donors he had connections to.

Regardless, Josh seemed to take the opportunity seriously, at least in the sense that he was “cocky and very clearly came to DC thinking he was somebody,” according to the former associate. To that end, the anonymous Redditor claimed that she worked adjacent to Josh, close enough to know that he was not actually doing his job but not close enough for him to understand her role.

The former coworker was surprised when Josh approached her, asking her to switch departments and be his assistant. The role would involve traveling the country with Josh “while he had meetings with people regarding race endorsement.”

Josh was later photographed (and posted to Twitter) with political personalities like Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, and Mike Huckabee.

The would-be assistant says she already had plans to leave D.C., so she “kind of just politely blew it off.” Later, she speculated that Josh intended for the job to become a “predatory situation,” suggesting that he was specifically looking for a young woman to be stuck traveling with him and in “unfamiliar, private situations.”

A few years later, when the Ashley Madison scandal broke — setting off a cascade of reveals of other crimes by Josh Duggar — the would-be assistant was relieved that she dodged a bullet.

Josh Duggar worked for FRC for nearly two years, ultimately “resigning” when the reports about his underage crimes were made public. Josh’s resignation spurred a statement from the organization’s president; Tony Perkins stated, “Josh believes that the situation will make it difficult to be effective in his current work.”

Perkins also stated that the information about Josh’s past was “previously unknown information.”

That was around the same time that TLC removed the Duggars’ 19 Kids and Counting from the air, marking the end of both Josh’s political career and his reality TV endeavors.
