Getting a role on Seinfeld was a major deal. However, on the flip side, it could also do an actor more harm than good. Take Heidi Swedberg as an example. Following the negative reviews, the guest star left Hollywood for a completely different career.

Getting to work with Michael Richards was also problematic for certain guest stars. In the following, we’re going to take a look back at Sarah Silverman’s time alongside Richards, and why things didn’t go as planned behind the scenes. Following an altercation between the two, Silverman admits their relationship completely changed.

We’ll take a look back at what went down, and other guest stars that reportedly had difficulties working alongside Richards.

Sarah Silverman Was Furious Over Michael Richards’ Seinfeld Ovation Given That He Had Just Yelled At Her Backstage

Appearing on Seinfeld was a dream gig for stars in the industry, especially comedians. However, it wasn’t always fun and game. One guest-star in particular had a forgettable experience alongside Michael Richards. That person is none other than Sarah Silverman, who stood up against Michael Richards during a tense moment behind the scenes.

Silverman recalls things taking a turn after she messed up a line about the weather. Although it was an innocent mistake, Richards took it very seriously, which was typically the case for the actor behind the scenes.

Silverman recalls, “This guy, Michael Richards, breaks character and just starts ripping me a new a**hole,” Silverman said. “He points to the window and he goes, ‘Do you see rain in that window? Do you see rain in that window?’ and I go, ‘No,’ and he says, ‘Then why did you say rain?’ It’s not rain. There’s no rain in that window! The line is ‘wind’!”

Silverman was upset that the moment took place, and admits she was on the verge of crying. Adding to the moment, Silverman was furious that Richards got an ovation from the crowd, and was never called out by his peers.

“Nobody calls him on his sh** because he’s Kramer from ‘Seinfeld.’ He walks through the front door and he gets a standing ovation.”

Silverman didn’t let the moment slide and let the actor have it during another moment on the show.

Sarah Silverman Admitted That She Became Friendly With Michael Richards After Seinfeld

Silverman returned to work the following day, and it seemed as though the incident was completely forgotten about as Richards attempted to make small talk with Sarah and others. However, Silverman wasn’t having it, and she let Richards know about how their interaction was not okay.

“And finally, I just cut him off and I say, ‘I don’t give a f***!’” Silverman said. “And he’s kind of stunned, and it’s like he snapped out of it a little. He understood what I was saying was, ‘You don’t talk like that and act like nothing happened. I’m not going to be one of those people that joins in and acts like nothing happened. That was sh**** behavior.’”

Silverman admits that the moment actually helped as Richards understood where she was coming from. In addition, the two actually kept a friendship once Seinfeld came to an end.

Silverman added, “And then we became casually friendly and he would call me sometimes.”

Quite the turnaround between the two. Though in truth, it wasn’t the only time a guest star struggled with Michael Richards.

Guest Star Mike McShane Revealed He Had A Hard Time Getting Michael Richards’ Attention On Seinfeld

Mike McShane was another Seinfeld guest star and, according to the actor, getting Michael Richards’ attention was not easy. When meeting the cast backstage, he barely got anything out of Richards.

The actor recalls, “I remember when I arrived on set, Jerry gave me a very brief but fun tour of the stage, including the famous wall of cereals in the back area, which had like, 300 different cereals all stocked and fresh,” McShane explained. “The cast was very warm. Jason Alexander was a big fan of improv, so we talked about that a bit.”

“As for Michael Richards, he’s a very talented man and he worked very hard at having a unique entrance every time he entered Jerry’s apartment, but I didn’t warm to him much, unfortunately.”

McShane, however, revealed that he was finally able to get Richards’ attention after a snowball incident.

“Does anyone here want to try?’ I said, ‘I do!’ and I stepped up and really hit him with it. Then they asked for another take, and I did it again, right on the cheek. Then I went to get the third one and Andy said, ‘We’re good, Mike.’”

“After that, Michael Richards and I had a nice chat. I guess I had to hit him with a snowball twice to get his attention.”

Talk about a wake-up call.
