Teddi Mellencamp has large area of shoulder ‘cut out’ amid skin cancer battle: ‘Worth it’

Teddi Mellencamp is recovering from a major surgery to remove her skin cancer.

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, 42, updated her Instagram followers Wednesday after her “wide excision melanoma,” which she explained included a “soft tissue defect reconstruction with adjacent tissue rearrangement.”

Mellencamp’s doctors “cut out” a large area of her shoulder and “replaced it with a flap of skin” from lower down on her back.

She made sure to note that the “pain and discomfort are all worth it” before thanking everyone for their well wishes and reminding them to “get [their] skin checked.”

“I promise you do not want to go through this,” she warned.

The former Bravolebrity accompanied her announcement with a photo of her lying in a hospital bed, a shot of her upper back pre-operation and a selfie-style video taken immediately after the procedure.

“It’s pretty painful, but I’m so grateful that they did such a great job,” she mumbled to the camera as bandages and gauze poked through from behind her neck and shoulders.

Mellencamp let out a deep exhale and added, “My back skin’s tight. Struggle bus. But I’m hoping they got it all.”

The mother of three was munching on a saltine cracker and sipping on a lemon-lime soda while “waiting to be discharged to the nursing facility.”

Last week, Mellencamp revealed that the topical cream immunotherapy treatment she had been doing for almost three months “did not work on [her] melanomas.”

“After surgery, when god willing my margins are clear, we will continue to monitor my body closely every 3 months,” she told her fans.

Since announcing her stage 2 melanoma diagnosis in October 2022, Mellencamp has undergone various procedures to remove multiple melanomas and lymph nodes.

In January, a month after she was declared cancer-free, she disclosed that her doctors had found new spots they felt needed to be biopsied.

The accountability coach underwent yet another surgery in September, lamenting at the time, “I can’t even remember if this is the 12th or 13th [melanoma].”
