Jeremy Clarkson issues plea after high vet bill as he admits to money worries on farm

Jeremy Clarkson has shared the reaction to his latest vets bill just days after expressing money worries for farmers. Taking to his Instagram on Friday, the 63-year-old shared a picture of him and a fellow farmer laughing together alongside a caption insisting that the latest costs were high.

Describing the post, Jeremy wrote: “A farmer’s reaction to the vets bill. Farm Shop open Wednesday to Sunday, 9:30-4:30.” The presenter went on to share a series of hashtags including: “#Backbritishfarming”, “farmlife” and “giftideas”.

Many of his 1.5 million followers were quick to comment on his latest upload, including many fellow farmers who found it relatable. One joked: “Then we cry,” alongside crying with laughter emojis.

A second commented: “Well I guess there is less farmers so they have to charge more,” while a third joked: “Think of a number and double it.” Another added: “Vets and dentists quickest ways to empty your wallet.”

In his latest column with The Times, Jeremy said today’s farmers were “screwed” as farming subsidies had been “cut to the bone”. He shared: “They can’t make anything approximating to a living wage without government help, and they can’t put up prices because the supermarket system doesn’t allow it.”

Jeremy took over duties on his farm in 2019 after buying the land in 2008 and has been open about his struggles in profit along the way.

Last year, he admitted the thought of selling his farm had crossed his mind after facing problems such as failed crops and adverse weather conditions. In the farm’s first year, he also made just £114 in profit.

In his book Pigs Might Fly, released in October, Jeremy admitted he had “one last hope” at making things work.

He explained: “It would be easy for me to let the brambles and badgers take over my farmland and to sit back and watch the deer and squirrels eat all the trees in my woods.

“Which is why this morning, I decided to plant my game covers with mustard. It’s my last roll of the dice.”

On his plan potentially not working out, he added: “I don’t even want to think about it. It hurts my knees and my outgoings this year are truly terrifying, even for me with four other income streams. So I can’t hand it back to nature and I daren’t move forwards.”

Amid getting to grips with his farm, Jeremy and his partner Lisa Hogan opened a shop on his land in 2020.

The popular spot reopened earlier this month to a flock of visitors following its closure during winter.

In pictures obtained by the Mail Online last weekend, crowds of people were pictured standing outside waiting to be let in to bag themselves some goodies.

The shop increased its popularity following the release of Jeremy’s show Clarkson’s Farm in 2021.

Due to the influx of visitors, the car enthusiast previously attempted to win planning permission to install proper parking facilities but this was turned down by the council.

In June last year however, he was finally given the green light and two months later, 70 temporary additional parking spaces were created.
