Arsenal were in a rampant mood on Wednesday night when they put Lens to the sword, and now they’ll be looking to preserve their status at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners moved to the summit last weekend when Kai Havertz struck late at Brentford after Liverpool drew with Manchester City at the Etihad. With these two sides playing on Sunday this weekend, Arsenal can open up a four-point lead at the top with a win over Wolves.
The ease of their victory in midweek meant Mikel Arteta was able to preserve several key starters in the second half, so it’s unlikely we’ll see many changes from Wednesday’s team.
Here’s the starting lineup Arteta could opt for as Wolves come to town.
GK: David Raya – Ineligible to face his parent club last time out in the Premier League, Raya will keep his place in the side after keeping another clean sheet on Wednesday night.
RB: Takehiro Tomiyasu – Excellent in midweek, Tomiyasu is currently preferred over Ben White, who might not be 100%, at right-back.
CB: William Saliba – An imperious performer, Saliba has had a couple of minor blips in Arsenal’s last two outings. Nothing to be concerned about, mind.
CB: Gabriel – Gabriel has been excellent as of late and is a shoo-in to continue alongside Saliba on Saturday.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – The elegant left-back was withdrawn at half-time in midweek with an eye for Wolves’ visit.
DM: Declan Rice – Arsenal‘s player of the season so far, Rice has slotted in seamlessly and has transformed the Gunners’ security from the base of midfield.
CM: Martin Odegaard – Arteta’s more conservative formula could be inhibiting Odegaard, who we haven’t seen the very best of this season. However, the skipper was on the scoresheet in midweek and is likely improving towards full fitness after a spell out before the break.
CM: Kai Havertz – HE’S HERE. HE’S ARRIVED. What a goal can do, eh? Havertz played with a swagger in midweek and has to continue in the Arsenal midfield at the weekend.
RW: Bukayo Saka – Arteta actually gave Saka some respite by substituting him just after the hour against Lens. Such decisions will benefit the winger and Arsenal in the long run.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – After a quiet outing against Brentford, Jesus was superb on Wednesday night as he continued his fine run in the Champions League. The Brazilian is a key performer and has to start whenever he’s fit.
LW: Leandro Trossard – Arteta’s only change from Wednesday night. Trossard was an unused substitute but he’s been one of the Gunners’ more impressive performers over the past month. Gabriel Martinelli drops to bench after playing the full 90 against Lens.
