Castrol Save of the Month nominees – December 2023

Premier League’s goalkeepers were once again at their best in December.

Throughout the month, the men between the sticks made wonderful save, after wonderful save, after wonderful save.

Here’s the six saves that have made the December Castrol Save of the Month shortlist:

Wes Foderingham has made 89 saves so far this season, and his to deny Mohamed Salah in December was probably the pick of the bunch.

The Sheffield United goalkeeper demonstrated razor-sharp instincts to get a hand to a venomous volley from Salah at Bramall Lane.

Liverpool were pushed to their limits by Crystal Palace in December, relying on a last minute winner from Harvey Elliott to bag all three points.

Securing those three points wouldn’t have been possible if not for Alisson’s first-half heroics at Selhurst Park. The Brazilian goalkeeper dove quickly down to his right to palm a close range Jefferson Lerma effort off the crossbar, then the post, before he clamoured back to his to beat the ball away before it nestled in the net.

Crystal Palace’s summer signing repaid more than a bit of his transfer fee with his stunning save against Man City.

Dean Henderson was in brilliant form at the Etihad, making seven saves in total, with the pick of the bunch being a finger-tip stop to deny a curling effort from Bernardo Silva.

The England number one once again proved why he’s held onto that starting jersey for so long in December.

Jordan Pickford quick dive down to his near post area to flick a powerful Dejan Kulusevski effort clear of danger was proof of his international pedigree.

Yet another Castrol Save of the Month nomination for Guglielmo Vicario, and another deserved one too.

The Tottenham goalkeeper made a stunning stop to deny Danny Welbeck in an eventual defeat to Brighton, palming an effort from the striker from close range clear of danger.

Dorde Petrovic hasn’t put a foot wrong since replacing the injured Robert Sanchez in the Chelsea lineup.

The goalkeeper was in great form during the recent win over Luton Town, tipping a diving header from Carlton Morris miraculously onto the crossbar late in the game.
