Whoopi Goldberg admits to using weight loss drug Mounjaro after weighing 300 pounds

Whoopi Goldberg revealed she used weight loss drug Mounjaro to help her shed some pounds after weighing nearly 300 pounds in late 2021.

“I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 pounds when I made ‘Till,’ and I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff, and one of the things that’s helped me drop the weight is the Mounjaro –– that’s what I use,” Goldberg said on Tuesday’s episode of “The View.”

Goldberg, 68, began filming the movie “Till” in September 2021, and that was when she noticed “how much” weight she had “put on.”

“I just always felt like me, and then I saw me, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s a lot of me,’” she recalled.

The “Sister Act” actress admitted that her “weight has gone and come and gone and up and down” over the years, but she never previously prioritized it.

“It’s never been an issue for me, because I don’t listen to what other people say about me, so it has never been a problem,” she explained.

However, Goldberg reflected on how it could be “very hard” for other people who may not “know what a normal weight would be.”

“You have to take responsibility for yourself and see what’s going on with your body, and there’s nothing wrong [with taking weight loss drugs]. Stuff happens, you hit a certain age and everything falls to the ground, you know you just pick it up put it over the back and keep it moving,” she concluded.

Shortly after Goldberg made her confession, co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in and admitted that she also used Mounjaro after gaining 40 pounds during COVID.

“I love to cook, and I found out I love to eat, and I was horrified by the fact I would have to come out on air, I was, and so I also took Mounjaro,” Hostin said on Tuesday’s episode.

The lawyer recalled getting “nasty emails” after her transformation telling her that she’s “too skinny” and “taking the drug away from diabetics,” but she had greater “shame” before doing so.

“There is shame when you’ve gained weight, and I have never experienced that kinda shame before,” she shared.

Hostin explained that she “wasn’t clinically obese” when she began using the weight loss drug, but she was “horrified” when she discovered her cholesterol was 200 –– which put her into the category of a “high” level.

“I used Mounjaro, and my cholesterol is 140. Now, I feel better, I think I look better, and that’s what this is about for people,” Hostin concluded.

Hostin previously revealed in January 2023 that she had gotten liposuction and a breast reduction.

“I feel like a better version of myself,” she told People at the time. “I thought I would feel shame, like, ‘Oh my God, I’m doing plastic surgery like all these crazy celebrities.’ But I don’t feel shame at all.”

Meanwhile, Goldberg has also given glimpses into her weight journey over the years and previously shared that she lost 35 pounds in 2014 after weighing 217 pounds.

The “View” hosts were discussing the popular weight loss drugs that many celebrities have started to use after discussing Oprah Winfrey’s emotional ABC special talking about the benefits of the controversial medication.

Weight loss drugs like Mounjaro and Ozempic have surged in popularity over the last two years, and more celebrities –– including Elon Musk, Sharon Osbourne and Amy Schumer –– have fessed up to trying it.
