Everton have missed out on transfer target Mohammed Camara, as the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder is set to join Monaco after he completed his medical yesterday.

Everton asked about a deal for Camara last week as their talks for Paris St Germain’s Idrissa Gana Gueye hit an impasse on terms.

The 22-year-old joined the Austrian giants in 2020 and has since then steadily established himself as a dependable player in the middle of the park.

The Mali international has made 76 appearances for Salzburg ever since and found the back of the net on three occasions.

Camara, however, will sign a long-term deal with the Ligue 1 outfit to replace Aurelien Tchouameni, who joined Real Madrid for £85million earlier this summer, meaning Everton must look elsewhere.

The French side were originally in talks with Leicester about their midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

Monaco had a £12m bid rejected and were discussing an improved offer but instead opened parallel talks with Salzburg to see what price Camara can be bought for and a fee has now been agreed.

Everton are continuing talks over a striker and have made an offer for Rennes’ Serhou Guirassy, but have other options on the go.

The striker has scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons and could help fill the void left by the departure of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Boss Frank Lampard will be hoping new additions will help avoid another relegation scrap

The Toffees have already signed the likes of Amadou Onana, James Tarkowski, Conor Coady, Dwight McNeil, and Ruben Vinagre to help bolster their squad.

Boss Frank Lampard will be hoping those additions can help them avoid being pulled into another Premier League relegation scrap like last season.

Everton remain interested in a number of new signings before the transfer window slams shut.
