Former Mets star Matt Harvey proclaims retirement: ‘Goodbye, baseball’

After 9 MLB seasons, former New York Mets star pitcher Matt Harvey is looking it a profession. 

Harvey introduced his retirement on Friday, posting a photograph of himself to Instagram from a 2013 recreation with the Mets. He captioned the put up, “Goodbye, baseball. And thanks.”

“To my household and associates: you stored me going and preventing, and gave me a lot love alongside the way in which,” Harvey wrote. “I’ll not have proven my appreciation on the time, however I recognize every considered one of you, so extremely a lot.


“To all of my teammates and organizations who welcomed me: I fought to win and to battle with you greater than you’ll ever know.

“To the followers, most significantly the NY Mets followers: you made a dream come true for me. A dream I by no means might have considered true. Harvey was drafted by the Mets with the seventh total decide of the 2010 MLB Draft and made his debut in 2012.

He was chosen as an All-Star in 2013 and helped the Mets to a World Series look in 2015. 

Harvey final pitched within the majors for the Baltimore Orioles in 2021, ending the season with a 6-14 report and an ERA of 6.27. 

He spent final season in Baltimore’s minor league system and was suspended for 60 video games firstly of the 2022 season for “collaborating within the distribution of a prohibited Drug of Abuse,” which violated MLB’s drug program. 

His suspension was associated to his testimony in the course of the trial of Los Angeles Angels communications director Eric Kay.

Kay was convicted in February 2022 of offering pitcher Tyler Skaggs the medicine that brought on him to overdose and die. He was convicted of drug distribution leading to demise and drug conspiracy after the federal government alleged that he gave Skaggs counterfeit oxycodone tablets, which additionally contained fentanyl.

During the trial, Harvey “acknowledged whereas below immunity from felony conviction to being a cocaine and oxycodone consumer and sometimes offering Skaggs with oxycodone tablets when he performed for the Angels in 2019,” in keeping with ESPN.

Harvey final pitched for Team Italy within the World Baseball Classic, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two begins. 

Harvey ends his profession with a 50-66 report and an ERA of three.66.
