Captaincy proved pivotal last time out with the absence of Erling Haaland putting vice-captaincy in play, which worked well for those who backed either Son Heung-min or Mohamed Salah.

The trend looks set to continue in FPL Gameweek 17 with Man City star Haaland a doubt once again due to injury.

With that in mind, we’ve selected the best options for the armband ahead of the upcoming gameweek with the help of Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is currently the favourite to take the armband this week despite a difficult fixture on paper at home to Manchester United. However, Salah has scored more goals against the Red Devils than any other opponent, with 12 in all competitions.

This fixture finished 7-0 to Liverpool last season, with Salah chalking up 21 fantasy points with two goals and two assists. Man Utd could be without key defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw for this game, with the pair limping off in the Champions League in midweek.

Son Heung-min

For those managers not convinced by Salah, Son Heung-min provides an adequate alternative for Friday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, a side who have lost four of their last five games. Son loves an away game, with seven goals and one assist on the road this campaign.

Son was the top-scoring player in Gameweek 16, where he confirmed his position as Tottenham’s first-choice penalty taker. He played on the wing in the win against Newcastle United but that didn’t hinder his output as he linked up well with Richarlison.

Bukayo Saka

A home game for Arsenal immediately brings Bukayo Saka into the captaincy conversation, with a flawless record when he’s started at the Emirates this season. He has returned four goals and four assists in seven home starts without a single blank.

Saka has so many routes to points given his involvement in set pieces and despite sharing some spot-kick duties this season he is favourite to take the next penalty. Brighton are also one of just two Premier League sides yet to keep a clean sheet in this campaign.
