Jadon Sancho: Man Utd in loan talks with Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are in talks over a loan deal for Jadon Sancho.

The 23-year-old has been frozen out at Old Trafford since September after refusing to apologise to manager Erik ten Hag – the winger having publicly stated that he’d been made a “scapegoat” by the Dutchman after being left out of the squad to face Arsenal.

90min revealed in October that Sancho was hopeful of returning to Dortmund on loan, with the prospect of a reintegration at United not on the horizon unless an apology was forthcoming, and multiple sources in both England and Germany report that the two clubs are now in active discussions over a move.

Dortmund will need to pay a significant chunk of Sancho’s salary to make the move happen, though it remains to be seen whether United will look to replace him with a signing of their own, and it’s been claimed that a deal could be struck by the end of this week.

Fellow Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart have previously expressed an interest in taking Sancho off United’s hands – the cash-rich Saudi Pro League have also been keeping a close eye on proceedings – but a return to the club where the 23-cap England international made his name now looks the most likely move.

Sancho made 137 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions during a four-year stay, scoring 50 goals. He lifted the DFB-Pokal and DFB-Supercup en route to becoming one of the most electrifying young wingers in world football, and was on United’s transfer radar for the best part of two years before joining in 2021 in a deal worth up to £73m.

Initially Sancho was identified as a potential solution to United‘s problems on the right wing, but he quickly transitioned over to the left flank after plying his trade in that position for the majority of his time at Dortmund.

Sancho has failed to live up to expectations, often finding himself in and out of the side, and his Red Devils career now looks to be coming to a disappointing end after four months of sitting on the sidelines watching United crash out of Europe as well as sliding down the Premier League table.
