Jamirah Shutes, a senior guard on the Memphis ladies’s basketball crew, pleaded not responsible to an assault cost after she was accused of punching a Bowling Green participant within the face following the Tigers’ loss within the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) final week, officers confirmed.
The City of Bowling Green Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that an legal professional representing Shutes entered a not-guilty plea in courtroom on Wednesday.

MEMPHIS’ JAMIRAH SHUTES CHARGED WITH ASSAULT FOR ALLEGEDLY PUNCHING BGSU’S ELISSA BRETT IN HANDSHAKE LINE
The Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Police Department issued a press launch on Friday to announce that Shutes had been charged with assault after an “unwarranted bodily incident” wherein she was captured on video punching Falcons guard Elissa Brett within the face in the course of the handshake line.
“Violence isn’t acceptable, and our precedence stays the well being, security and assist of our student-athlete, who’s recovering and doing nicely. This is an energetic investigation along side the City of Bowling Green Prosecutor, and no additional remark is accessible at the moment,” the assertion learn.

The incident occurred on the conclusion of the Memphis-BGSU Sweet 16 matchup. As each groups approached mid-court to shake arms, Shutes appeared to cease when she reached Brett.
Shutes then appeared to sucker-punch Brett, forcing her to the ground.
According to an incident report offered by BGSU, Shutes allegedly struck Brett within the face “with a closed fist,” leading to “some swelling in [Brett’s] proper eye.”
A member of the Tigers teaching employees then appeared to seize Shutes and escort her off the courtroom.

Memphis launched a press release Friday to substantiate that it was working with native authorities, including that the incident “was extraordinarily unlucky and positively not in step with, or consultant of, our expectations for our applications and student-athletes.”
