Navy christens USS Cooperstown in honor of baseball Hall of Fame veterans

Military veterans, together with the 70 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame who put their celebrated baseball careers on maintain to serve, acquired a particular honor on Saturday.

The newly commissioned USS Cooperstown joins the energetic fleet as the newest Freedom-variant littoral fight ship.

According to the Department of Defense, LCS ships are “quick, optimally-manned, mission-tailored floor combatants that function in near-shore and open-ocean environments.”


Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Joe Torre had been on web site for the ceremony.

Bench’s father served within the navy for eight years.
