Newcastle predicted lineup vs Paris Saint-Germain – Champions League

Newcastle United have crashed back down to Earth since their 4-1 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain in September, sitting bottom of Group F as they prepare for the return fixture.

Borussia Dortmund twice got the better of Eddie Howe’s side which means they have to claim at least a point in Paris on Tuesday night to maintain their hopes of progressing into the Champions League round of 16.

Howe is still dealing with an injury crisis which made their 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday all the more impressive. However, a huge task now awaits the Magpies.

Here’s how they could line up against PSG on Tuesday night.

GK: Nick Pope – If Newcastle are to escape Paris with something, Pope will need to produce a San Siro-esque performance on Tuesday night.

RB: Kieran Tripper – The England international will face up against arguably the world’s best in Kylian Mbappe. Trippier dealt with the Frenchman in the reverse fixture.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles – The Lascelles renaissance continued at the weekend as he scored the go-ahead goal in Newcastle’s eventual thrashing of Chelsea.

CB: Fabian Schar – The highlight of Schar’s Newcastle career arrived in the reverse fixture as he put the cherry on top of their unforgettable 4-1 victory back in October.

LB: Tino Livramento – The versatile young full-back has been excellent since being integrated into the starting XI, but he’ll have his work cut out on Tuesday with Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi marauding down his flank.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes – We’re yet to see the very best of Guimaraes this season. This is a contest in which Newcastle’s do-it-all midfielder needs to step up.

CM: Sean Longstaff – Howe might be taking a risk by playing Longstaff, who missed the Chelsea win with a hamstring problem.

CM: Joelinton – Howe’s got to be brave in Paris and Joelinton’s energy without possession will be key to disrupting the hosts, who will take risks when they’ve got the ball.

RW: Miguel Almiron – The loveable wide man got the ball rolling against the capital side on Matchday 2, but his campaign has been otherwise quiet.

ST: Alexander Isak – Isak’s return after the break was certainly a welcome one as he bagged the opener against Chelsea. He’ll give PSG’s centre-backs something to consider, just as he did at St James’ Park.

LW: Anthony Gordon – Newcastle’s man of the moment. Gordon is in a rich vein of form and he heads into Tuesday’s game having scored and assisted on Saturday against the Blues.
