Prince Harry Decided To Pre-Tape His Interview With Stephen Colbert For “Security Reasons”

In January 2023, Prince Harry was scheduled to appear on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. However, audience members eager to see the two speaking live were incredibly disappointed when they found out the interview was pre-taped. “Colbert apologized to the audience for not telling them Harry was not going to be in attendance before claiming it was for security reasons,” per the Daily Mail. Reportedly, the actual reason Prince Harry wanted the interview pre-taped was because he feared getting booed.

The taping of The Late Night was also an hour shorter than usual. There wasn’t a live interview for those in the audience to watch. Fans watching the interview online slammed Prince Harry for the pre-taped interview.

One user wrote, “This says so much about Harry and who he really is,” and another added “Harry uses security for an excuses for…well anything he needs an excuse for.” Some commented on the claim he feared being booed. “He was frightened by the thought he might get booed? Was he serious?”

Some fans wondered about the audience, especially since the interview was pre-taped. One person concluded “they must have handpicked an audience that would not embarrass him”.

After learning that Prince Harry decided to pre-tape his interview with Stephen Colbert, audience members were taken aback, and expressed their anger and disbelief.

During the interview, Colbert and Prince Harry discussed The Crown, Harry’s memoir Spare, his troubled relationship with his brother Prince William, and the death of their mother, Princess Diana, among other things.

There were several audience members who’d traveled from different parts of the state in order to watch Prince Harry’s interview with Stephen Colbert. Their initial excitement about watching the Duke of Sussex’s live interview shifted to anger, disbelief and disappointment due to the interview having been finished.

Those who traveled to watch Stephen Colbert’s interview with Prince Harry expressed annoyance and feelings of being let down that it had been pre-taped.

After Stephen Colbert apologized to the audience, explaining “security reasons” had kept Prince Harry from appearing for the scheduled interview, many were outraged, and slammed the Duke of Sussex’s decision. One person reportedly yelled, “Are you serious?”

Audience members and devoted fans had traveled from different areas of the state to see Colbert interview Harry.

“The recording of the show usually lasts for two hours – including a warm-up act. Then, Colbert ended the show an hour before advertised,” per the Daily Mail, which surprised those in the audience. Many were shocked and irritated when they learned Prince Harry had pre-taped the interview.

One person commented, “Security issues? Really? It’s not like he’s Prince William or anything – he’s not properly in line to the throne.” Another added, “Who is trying to kill Harry? I’ve been to a lot of these and this has never happened. I’m really surprised.” One remarked “F*** Prince Harry,” while leaving.

Another audience member mentioned that the shortened filming “wasn’t worth waiting an hour in the cold for,” and added, “Who needs Prince Harry anyway?” One audience member said “They are just creating their own drama now for the sake of it.” “If it’s about your family and your safety, why are you doing the interview in the first place?” Another wondered, per the Daily Mail.

Audience members who had waited to watch Stephen Colbert’s interview with Prince Harry were angered by the Spare author’s decision for the interview to be taped early, instead of showing up for an audience that had looked forward to it.
