Premier League predictions: Gameweek 15

Barely two days after a weekend filled with goal of the season contenders, more exasperating refereeing decisions and twists and turns at both ends of the Premier League table, Gameweek 15 commences with some incredibly juicy-looking fixtures.

38 goals were scored across the ten games played in Gameweek 14, with seven arriving at Anfield as Liverpool beat Fulham in a thriller and six coming at the Etihad as Tottenham claimed a late point at reigning champions Manchester City.

It’s Arsenal who have capitalised on City’s draw to take a two-point lead at the league’s summit and the Gunners take part in one of two fixtures that start the midweek action on Tuesday night.

Here’s 90min’s predictions for Gameweek 15 of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The slate of fixtures kicks off at Molineux where a Wolves side with three defeats from their last four Premier League games will aim for a more positive outcome when Burnley visit. The Clarets ended their own bleak run of form by thumping Sheffield United 5-0 on Saturday but Gary O’Neil’s Wanderers will provide much sterner opposition.

Arsenal have hit a consistent streak in time for the festive schedule, their latest win over Wolves being their fifth in a row in all competitions. Mikel Arteta’s squad should have too much quality in attack for Luton Town to handle, even if the Hatters have frustrated Tottenham and Liverpool in previous encounters at Kenilworth Road this season.

Two idealistic teams in Brighton and Brentford face off on Wednesday. 2022/23’s equivalent match entertained fans with a 3-3 draw and there should be similar excitement here at the AMEX, with Seagulls supporters yet to see their side record a league clean sheet.

Crystal Palace played their part in a dire 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday but Roy Hodgson’s outfit could be tested by Bournemouth, who are enjoying a three-game unbeaten run to move six points clear of the relegation zone.

There have been a minimum of four goals in each of Fulham‘s last three games. The Cottagers couldn’t hold on against Liverpool despite taking a 3-2 lead in the 80th minute but a similar attacking display could help them to victory over Nottingham Forest, who were downed at home by Everton last time out.

Paul Heckingbottom has become the first managerial casualty of the season after Sheffield United were battered by fellow promoted club Burnley. The Blades could have done without a clash with Liverpool, who produced a stunning array of goals as they came from behind to snatch all three points against Fulham.

Manchester City were left ruing missed chances and sketchy officiating as they dropped down to third and a tough assignment awaits the champions when they take on Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s troops have won all six of their league games at Villa Park this term and could provide further disgruntlement for Pep Guardiola and co on Wednesday night.

All sorts of chaos could play out when Manchester United meet Chelsea at Old Trafford. The Red Devils provided another limp display in a big away game as they lost 1-0 to Newcastle, but the Blues did overcome a red card to Conor Gallagher on the stroke of half-time to secure a 3-2 success against Brighton.

Newcastle keep producing spirited performances despite their lengthy injury list, with Nick Pope the latest victim now on the sidelines. While their playing squad is razor thin, the Magpies are firm favourites to win on Thursday at Everton, who would be 12th if not for their recent points penalty.

The action comes to a close with Tottenham hosting West Ham in a London derby. Spurs got just reward for their enterprise with a late 3-3 draw at Man City but remain without a win since late October. Ange Postecoglou will hope to change that by inflicting a first defeat on the Hammers since early November.
