Ryan Gravenberch admits disappointment over lack of Bayern Munich chances

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has insisted he has no regrets about joining the club during the summer but is disappointed about his minimal playing time so far.

Gravenberch became Ajax’s youngest ever Eredivisie players at 16 years and 130 days in 2018, going on to become a key player for the Amsterdam giants by the time he was 18.

His form for Ajax has seen him included among the final 40 nominees for the 2022 Golden Boy award, while Bayern were convinced to pay €18m plus add-ons for his services in June.

But Gravenberch, now 20, is struggling to establish himself in the more competitive environment at Bayern, failing to start a single Bundesliga game so far this season.

He has made five league appearances off the bench but wasn’t involved at all as Bayern lost to Augsburg at the weekend to continue their recent troubling run. Gravenberch was also afforded 10 minutes off the bench against Barcelona in the Champions League last week, while his only start has been against lower league opposition in an early round of the DFB Pokal.

“I have no regrets with joining Bayern. But to be honest, I’m disappointed as you want to play, it’s normal…,” Gravenberch told this week. “I have to accept it but it’s difficult. I have to stay calm. I hope to have more space after the international break.”

After four consecutive Bundesliga games without a win, Bayern will resume domestic action after the international break with the visit of Bayer Leverkusen to the Allianz Arena. Leverkusen have underwhelmed this season and are hovering just above the relegation zone.
