La Liga president rates Real Madrid’s chance of signing Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid have a “high” chance of signing Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season in the eyes of La Liga president Javier Tebas.

With his PSG deal up at the end of the season, Mbappe is set to become a free agent on 1 July. He is already eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with regard to a summer move but is yet to make a decision about where he intends to play in 2024/25 and beyond.

Even though every top club in the world would surely love to have Mbappe, gossip about his future has hardly seriously deviated from Madrid for several years.

“I think high,” Tebas said, via Marca, of the possibility that Mbappe moves to the Bernabeu.

“It’s a personal opinion. 26-year-old player…PSG seems not [that he will stay]. It will depend on Real Madrid, the president and what he is willing to bet on. Real Madrid must think that the arrival of [Jude] Bellingham has made him already have a star, Vinicius [Junior] is another

“If the player wants to go to Madrid…more than 50% [he will go].”

Mbappe’s camp recently refuted claims in France that he has already chosen Madrid.

90min understands that Mbappe, who is determined to play for France at the Olympics on home soil in Paris in July and August as a designated overage player, has made a commitment to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he will be the first to know of what the eventual decision will be.

From a financial perspective, PSG are relaxed about the situation, even with Mbappe on course to become a free agent. As 90min reported earlier this month, there is already a legally binding agreement between player and club regarding a sum of up to €80m that Mbappe would return in the even of leaving Parc des Princes as a free agent – and therefore bringing in no transfer fee.

This number is variable and not simply Mbappe waiving his loyalty bonus. Other factors are also considered to calculate the final amount in what is described by sources as a complicated legal agreement, and one based on how and when Mbappe exits should that occur. He has already forgone some of his loyalty bonus due last year though, enough to convince Al-Khelaifi of his commitment to the club. Should Mbappe extend, he will receive back the money waived.
