EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Prince Harry was not impressed Prince Andrew attended a special service to mark a year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, source says

Awkward times at St George’s Chapel when Prince Harry turned up to pay his respects to his grandmother a year after her passing.

A source says that, during his visit, Harry discovered that a special service attended by Prince Edward and Prince Andrew was scheduled a few hours later.

Apparently, Harry wasn’t impressed at confirmation that fellow exile Andrew, who he took a swipe at in his autobiography, Spare, over the Virginia Giuffre imbroglio, is being brought in from the cold.

His attendance wasn’t publicised but he is now a fixture at family events, having grudgingly accepted that he won’t be returning to a full royal life.

Harry, says the source, left St George’s ‘wearing his finest scowl’.

A forthcoming BBC2 documentary about Coco Chanel, pictured in her prime, reveals that she boycotted the Alan Jay Lerner/Andrew Previn 1969 Broadway musical about her life as it starred ‘the old one’ – Katharine Hepburn (62 at the time) – rather than her choice – Audrey Hepburn (then aged 40). The fussy fashion designer, who died in 1971, was 85 at the time!

With the Euro 2024 qualifiers under way, King Charles has yet to nominate a replacement for his late mother as patron of the English, Welsh and Scottish Football Associations as well as the Army, Royal Navy and RAF FAs.

He has, however, become patron of the Australian Football League Europe, promoting Aussie rules football (which to the untrained eye seems to have no rules).

Gaffe-prone Labour veteran Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, eagerly tweets: ‘Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones launch new album in Hackney itself. Where else?’

Does Diane really approve of the title of the band’s new album, Hackney Diamonds? It’s an old east London slang term referring to a broken car window after a robbery.

Dame Joan Collins, clearing her throat for her latest one woman show, Behind The Shoulder Pads, reveals her modest requirements backstage.

‘My dressing room rider is just coffee, water and a bottle of wine to share with my company after the show,’ she says. Would that be a Methuselah or a Salmanazar, Joanie?

Chris Tarrant, recalls a 2am booze-fuelled Lord’s Taverners session at the Savoy with the late Terry Wogan, when both had early morning radio shows.

He said the only consolation as he suffered with a hangover on Capital was that, at BBC Radio 2, ‘a much older Irishman would be feeling worse’.

Meeting Terry three weeks later, Tarrant asked how he’d been the morning after. ‘Dreadful. I got up at about 12 noon,’ replied Tel. ‘I was like ‘Twelve?’,’ said Tarrant, ‘You had to do the radio at 6.30am’ and he said ‘Oh no, didn’t I tell you. I had the week off’.’
