China province forces individuals of religion to register on ‘Smart Religion’ app for worship

Religious residents within the Henan province of the People’s Republic of China should register with the federal government’s new “Smart Religion” app as a way to take part in worship providers. 

Religious members of the general public in Henan should fill out a authorities type and confirm their place of worship earlier than gathering with fellow believers, in accordance with Chinese human rights advocacy group ChinaHelp.

“Applicants should fill in private info, together with title, cellphone quantity, ID quantity, everlasting residence, occupation, and date of beginning, earlier than they will make a reservation,” the group reported. “Those who’re allowed into the church should even have their temperature taken and present a reservation code.”

ChinaHelp launched their report on the brand new system on March 6.

The regulation system is required for all residents looking for to worship, no matter faith — residents can choose their affiliation with a church, Buddhist temple, mosque, and others.

Smart Religion was developed by the Henan Province Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission.
