Highland Park shooter trial: Trial date to be set in December for Highland Park shooting suspect Robert Crimo III

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) — On Monday, Robert Crimo III appeared in court, wearing a face mask and seated next to his defense team.

The trial date for the alleged Highland Park parade shooter will be set on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m., the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

New discovery materials, including photographs and medical records from various hospitals, were submitted into evidence on Monday.

Crimo allegedly shot and killed seven people and injured dozens more during a pre-meditated and calculated attack at the 2022 Highland Park Independence Day parade.

In July, a grand jury handed down a 117-count indictment against Crimo. He now faces 48 counts of attempted murder, 48 counts of aggravated battery and 21 murder charges.

Prosecutors asked the judge for three more months to finish gathering evidence. They’re still awaiting an FBI report and chain of custody paperwork.

The gunman’s father, Robert Crimo Jr., who faces felony reckless conduct charges for allegedly helping his son get a FOID card, also attended Monday’s hearing.

In August, a judge refused to dismiss his case.

Prosecutors said if Crimo Jr. never signed documents allowing his son to get a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, the Highland Park mass shooting never would’ve happened.

Crimo’s next court date is set for Dec. 11. His father’s bench trial is set for Nov. 6.

Editorial note: This story originally said the trial date was set for Dec. 11 based on initial information from the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
