Off-duty detective shoots at armed robber in NYC: NYPD

An off-duty detective fired his weapon at a gun-wielding robber on an East Harlem street Monday morning, cops said.

The 38-year-old officer was at Park Avenue and East 122nd Street around 11:30 a.m. when he saw two men robbing a 29-year-old at gunpoint, police said.

“He was on his way to work and encountered what appeared to be a robbery in progress and he intervened,” a police spokesperson said. “One round was discharged.”

The robbers, who snatched the victim’s watch and cash, took off in a Ford van, police sources said. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

It was unclear if either of the robbers were struck by gunfire, cops said. Police were canvassing hospitals. The police officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of tinnitus.
