Pioneer Valley plane crash: Two die after light aircraft crashes near Finch Hatton

Two people have died after a light plane crashed into a mountain range in regional Queensland.

A man and a woman, aged 73 and 75, are believed to been on board but are not expected to have survived the crash, which occurred in the Pioneer Ranges, west of Mackay on Saturday.

Emergency services were alerted on Saturday around 9am after witnesses reported seeing the aircraft come down near Finch Hatton.

A rescue helicopter crew spotted the wreckage in mountainous terrain around 11.30am.

An RACQ spokesperson described the crash as ‘unsurvivable’.
