Throughout his evolution from sketch-comedy standout to uneasy movie star to twice-failed talk-show host to enthusiastic song-and-dance man, I’ve wrinkled my nose. Every time he dresses up in a silly outfit or says something outrageous or mugs for the audience, I want to shout at the screen: Why are you being like this?,” the writer penned.
Shortly after the hit piece dropped, Short was being defended by his friends in the industry.
On X, Ben Stiller wrote, “Martin Short is a comedic genius. End o story.”
Mark Hamill gave his two cents
“Hard to believe people are actually debating whether or not Martin Short is funny. Newsflash: He is HILARIOUS. #ComicGenius” he wrote.
J. Smith-Cameron had an interesting take.
“The infamous Martin Short article is filled with clips or references to characters that the writer finds annoying somehow, but are so entertaining that the article is a valentine in spite of itself,” Cameron wrote.
In spite of the article, Short is still a legend, and he’s not done yet.
Short Is Moving Ahead With Some Projects On Deck
According to his IMDb page, Short has multiple irons in the fire.
The biggest project is undoubtedly Only Murders in the Building, which has been a sensation since season one.
In an interview, Martin talked about playing his character from the show.
“Anyone who is self-absorbed, but doesn’t think we’re aware of it is always funny. To me, one of the funniest images was when Richard Nixon looked into the camera and said, ‘I’m not a crook,’ but above his lip was sweat so we knew he was lying, and he knew we knew he was lying. I find those scenarios funny,” he said.
Martin Short is a comedy legend, and while he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, the man has had one heck of a career.
