Actor Alec Baldwin plans reality show amid legal troubles

The actor, who faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted over the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on a film set, is in talks over a “family show” about raising his seven young children aged one to 10 with second wife Hilaria, 40.

Baldwin, who is also facing huge legal costs for his trial this year, said the main reason he wants to produce and appear in a reality programme is to “stay home and work from home” in New York.

The 65-year-old star of blockbusters such as The Hunt for Red October, Married to the Mob and Pearl Harbor also admitted the cost of raising his children means “I can’t go anywhere for any length of time”.

He added: “In the old days I’d jump on a plane to LA and do a movie, or a few episodes of Will and Grace.”

Now the planning and cost to take his wife, children and their nannies make travelling unappealing.

Baldwin said he and Hilaria “have thought a lot” about how a reality show will mean he can work from their £9.2million penthouse.

He has also put his £15million second home on Long Island on the market and appeared in the estate agent’s video to boost the chance of a quick sale.

He once shared the 10-acre property with first wife Kim Basinger and their daughter Ireland, now 28.

Baldwin was speaking to a US radio show before he was charged with involuntary manslaughter for a second time over the fatal shooting death of Halyma Hutchins, 42, on the set of western movie Rust in 2021.

Baldwin, an executive producer on the film, accidentally shot and killed Ms Hutchins, who was married with a young son, with an antique six-shooter. It should have been loaded with dummy rounds.

He was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter but that was dropped when the FBI said more tests should be carried out on the firearm.

It has been reinstated following a grand jury indictment in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin also faces a civil lawsuit brought by Ms Hutchins’s family.

His lawyers have said: “We look forward to our day in court.”

A source close to the star said: “He’s determined to prove he is innocent of any wrongdoing but was already worrying about money before this latest setback.”

“He has at least three networks interested in a reality show, which he sees as pretty much the only way forward in terms of work that will keep his costs down and provide a revenue stream.”
